On another note - do you think that platforms like MCPS's Naviance are really that accurate? The scatterplots for my kid (similar stats to the OP's) for BC, for example, show it as a perfect "fit"... I wouldn't really worry about this other than my kid is trying to make a list of 3 reaches, 3 fits, 3 safeties.... and if a fit is actually a reach, then ... Well, then, whatever. But you know what I mean - it'd be nice to get the 3/3/3 balance right.

Naviance is not very accurate because it’s a self-reporting system. Kids are more excited to report acceptance than rejects.

I think it can be a perfect fit and still be a reach, simply due to the level of uncertainty involved (unpredictable/low acceptance rate). For example, kids with lower scores may get in while kids with higher ones are denied - not yield protection, but strongly consider what the school is looking for in terms of Jesuit educational values, take time with the supplemental essay. A lot of competition from NJ, don't know about DC.

Naviance can be mildly helpful if there are a lot of data points, if a significant number apply from the high school each year, but there's much that it doesn't show (hooks, rigor)

Michigan is an ultra safety. They yield protect so as long as your SAT is low you have a really good chance. Michigan takes average to below average students. They don't take good students.

I’ll bet, if he’s full-pay and flexible, most liberal arts colleges below about the top 50 would be dying to hear from him.

If he thinks Boston College would be fun because of Boston, maybe he could use Suffolk
University or Lesley University as safeties.

If he wants a school that has a little national name recognition, Bard College.

If $70,000 a year would be too much, maybe he could try a place like UMass Boston or a non-fashionable Big 10 or Big 8 school, like the University of Iowa.

UMD is not a safety, more like a match. Look at St. Joe's, Loyola Maryland and Miami University (the one in Ohio).
