While undergoing fertility testing, I did the Jewish panel. Found out a few weeks into my pregnancy that I carried the gene for Cystic Fibrosis. (Lab didn't give me the results in a timely manner.) Longest two weeks of my life were waiting for my husband's CF results. Thankfully, he is not a carrier! No one else in my family has tested - parents or siblings, so we are not sure which side it came from.

There is mental illness and alcoholism on both sides of our family. Evena couple of suicides. Prior to marriage we decided to adopt rather than birth. We are raising our 3 healthy kids, ages 7, 10, 13.

Yes, it’s helpful information. My genetic disorder doesn’t impact health as much as physical attributes which can become costly/painful depending on procedure.

We decided to have kids in the future, keeping in mind the costs.
