Last year it was 70 degrees the day we had my daughter’s birthday party! Everyone was running around in short sleeves in the middle of January! It was nuts!

That said, you could certainly try for a short backyard s’mores and cocoa party. If the weather is nice you could set up extra games so people can stay longer. Generally, as long as you sing happy birthday within an hour, you’re good. People who want to leave can go and if kids are having fun they can play. If it snows you could have snow games which would be super fun!

Personally, I would shoot to have 2 or 3 families attend. No more. Even something small like this will feel super festive. Good luck!

Mine will be turninf 5 in Feb. Home party for her with one set of grandparents that are local and in her bubble. But we always do a home party day if birthday and maybe a friend or two bday playdate on the weekend after.

Actually there was a full turnout at the one I just attended. The host mom said everyone she invited, showed up to party.

I sadly know lots of people that would attend this party. They are also eating indoors at restaurants and socializing regularly with others (not socially distanced.)

It was a tad different than indoor dining. All the kids and parents wore masks.

The point is, most people willing to attend a party like this are not making the same risk assessments I am.

Exactly. The people that are willing to attend these parties are the same people taking other risks I'm not comfortable with.

Same here. No way. And my kids are back in school in-person, but that's worth the risk to us. A birthday party for a four-year old is not.

Same. We also declined a pool birthday party this summer because we are avoiding large crowds and we knew there were going to be a lot of people. We allowed our summer birthday kid to invite 2 friends for a backyard party. We will probably do the same for our December birthday kid if the weather is decent, but we'll add warm beverages for all.

I just went to a country club for a party. Everyone wore a mask and the kids sat a few feet away for the entertainment. It went great
