Soooo NOT true. Cornell and Michigan are significantly easier to get into than Rice —-but still super hard to get into.

Rice has an 11.1% acceptance rate. U of Mich OOS is 19.4% I've known several super smart kids who were rejected from Rice.
Some schools game the system to improve their US news ranking. They will not accept you if they think your chance to go there is low.
Sounds more like Michigan than Rice.

I know that they rely on demonstrated interested. It is a very good school.

I had a national award, leadership positions, volunteer work and a 4.0, top 5 in the school. I was not full pay but didn't receive that much in aid and got scholarships to cover that aid.
They recalibrated the SATs since "way back when".
