Greenwich Village is way better.

+1. We've been in the West Village for 25 years and I will never leave. So beautiful, slower pace of life, a few really great buildings with amazing amenities or a brownstone if that's your thing (and in your budget), amazing parks and playgrounds, on the water, easy walk to SoHo or Chelsea or Tribeca, a real neighborhood feel, amazing restaurants, GREAT schools, Chelsea Piers (if you have kids - they have so many sports and activities). Way harder to find something good and cheap here but you'll find a great place for 5 mil.

PP here. Agreed. My parents moved us into NYC when I was 14, after living in Westchester. We were on 9th street and 5th Ave in a terrific brownstone. I was so upset when they moved after we went to college, but at least it wasn’t far. They wanted to downsize, so now they’re in an apartment in the Flatiron District.

I’m down in DC (just lurking on the NYC board ) but would love to move back to NYC one day.

Hello former neighbor! We're just a few blocks away I do think downtown has a much different vibe than uptown and there are still a ton of kids around here. I don't spend much time uptown except for the fact that our synagogue is on the UES but it's just... a bit sterile. UWS is great though.

Hope you get to move back one day! I spent 5 years after college in DC and loved it. Came here after Urbanbaby (RIP) closed down.
