Mine was like this until we started using condoms. I wasn't able to take the pill for a little while due to some medical issues, and then I just didn't really feel like taking it after I would have been able to. I felt like I had taken it long enough and didn't want to anymore. I didn't ask DH to get a vasectomy, but a friend of ours had gotten one and was very happy with it. DH was totally against it but started to ponder it. After a while of using condoms, he made the appointment himself without even consulting with me beforehand. I think if we hadn't been using condoms and I had been on the pill, this would never have happened.

Same here, with a 4mo. I have an alarm on my phone and take the pill at the exact same time every night. Taking no chances here.
A PP mentioned interactions with allergy meds. I take claritin daily and wasn't told that would interact with the mini pill. I was informed of interactions with some antibiotics, but not allergy meds. So, yes, very freaked out now.

Pp here - I take it at “bedtime”. So anywhere between 9-11pm.

Same thing happened to me and DH. I have a blood clotting disorder so my BC options are limited and I was nursing/weaning my then 13 month old. I freaked out because I need to start lovenox right away so it was an extremely stressful time for me. I cried and cried mostly thinking I had lost the baby because I was careless and didn't start my meds right after I ovulated. Normally my cycle is 30 days or so but that cycle was 25 days for some reason and it's been that way even after I gave birth. I was 35 when I gave birth to my 3rd.

After a couple weeks things were still looking good. I started to get excited but for me, the mental toll of doing the injections was tough. I thought I was done with all that and celebrated after my 2nd was born and my bruises finally healed. It was also hard on my body since I had 3 babies in 3.5 years.

This baby is now a very delightful 4 year old little boy who has the most fun and loving personality. DH and I joke that he is our happy accident and that he might not have been planned, but sometimes the best things in life aren't. DH had a vasectomy and the all clear before my 6 week postpartum check up.

Feel what you need to feel OP, all of your feelings are valid. And then be open to those feelings changing over time.

Me too. Until I had a serious allergic reaction and went to the hospital and with a bunch of little kids around totally forgot I hadn't taken it lol.

Oh well, I'm due soon and super excited about it. I feel God gave me a gift.

Well, then I guess you’re not one of the unlucky 9%. Your n=1 doesn’t prove anything.

It’s not only the taking it at the exact same time. Like the combined pill, it has a list of meds that can make it less effective. Allergy meds, antibiotics, OTC stuff like Pepto Bismol. Having vomiting or diarrhea. St. John’s wort.

In any case, OP was using condoms, which are also excellent in “perfect” use, but rarely used perfectly, because people having sex are humans and all.

Congratulations, OP. It sounds like this won’t be a huge stressor on your family, and I think in those cases, a baby is good news.

Like PPs have pointed out, I probably wouldn’t advertise that baby is an oops, although some people will surmise that by the timing. My “baby” brother is an oops and it’s something that he feels has followed him around his whole life.

My main bit of advice is to keep the fact that this is an "oops baby" to yourself. I was an "oops baby" and knew it my whole life. My parents regularly talked about it, mentioned it to friends/strangers, etc. Although they were fantastic parents and loved me very much, it made me feel unwanted. I vowed I would never do this with a kid of mine if they were an "oops."

+1 I'm obviously ok with it now, but it made me feel pretty down when I was a (difficult) teenager.

You are probably infertile and don't realize it.

I've literally gotten pregnant one the first month every time 3 times in a row spanning a decade. Twice was a single encounter in a week. I would never rely on the mini pill.

I had three in exactly four years with 2 only 16 months apart. The timing was not what I was hoping for but three was my goal (DH wanted 2). We were using condoms but accidents happen but my DH just smiled and he was all in. Life was chaotic but we loved it.
