I just love big, fluffy dogs! I don’t actively dislike small dogs, but I do prefer dogs that I can’t accidentally step on.

I’m scared of big dogs. I’ll take a cute, small, toy dog any day over a big dog.

Disclaimer : i potentially like dogs of any size.

I have pugs. This thread is eye opening as to prejudices lurking under the surface when you all see me walking down the street with my sturdy guys. Who aren’t barking or jumping on you. Just ... walking.

We just got a greyhound who is extremely friendly and wants to greet every dog and human he sees on his walks. So many smaller dogs that we encounter bark, snarl and even lunge at him - even from a distance. He seems baffled about why they aren’t friendly. Fortunately, he’s very confident, so he shrugs it off and continues on his way.

I don’t hate small dogs, but I find dogs who are untrained and/or bark at everyone who walks past their house very annoying.

This. A small, well trained dog, doesn't bother me at all. But one that nips and growls and the owner just says "isn't she cute?" PASS. Also, train your little dog to heel and come and sit, just like you would with a big dog.

Honestly, it’s probably sexism/internalized sexism. Cats and small dogs are associated with women and femininity and therefore on some level considered inferior.

Eh, I love cats and I don't really care for dogs smaller than a Sheltie. Little dogs are often yappy and high-strung, and IME small-dog owners don't often take training seriously, so the dogs are more prone to be nippy and badly behaved. I know that's a generalization, but it's based on my personal experience with these kinds of dogs and their owners. I don't take pride in not liking dogs small enough to drop-kick, I just don't like them in the sense that I would never own one and I don't especially want to snuggle up with yours. I don't like poorly behaved big dogs, either, but, again IME, people who own big dogs tend to take bad behavior a little more seriously because of the potential for serious injury.

We love our two little dogs. Previously, we had a big dog and loved her too.

I more see men get made fun of for having little fluffy dogs.

There are conveniences to the small dogs. Very portable and ours are good for our kid.

I mean I love all animals, even small dogs, but my own Real Dog threshold is a 25 lb *minimum*. Ideally 50+ lbs.

Little dogs are glorified rats. They have tiny little brains and they bark and yap at everyone and everything because they have been bred down too small and are terrified.

So yeah, big dogs rule.
