I had twins who were 5 lbs. 2 oz and 6 lbs. 14 oz. and in no time the smaller one had caught up to the bigger one and they've been in the 99% for height and 75-90% for weight ever since. Don't worry about it.

Mine was 5lbs 12.5oz. He was born 8 days early. Me and his dad are small people. Both are 5’ 4” tall. My DS is 15 now and has always been less than the 25th percentile for height and weight. People remarked about how small he was but I thought he was perfect.

My twins were both 5 pounds - now they are the tallest in their class!

Normal birth weight. That was my birth weight, and my first child was 5 lbs 14 oz. Small, but also normal.

My baby was 5 lbs at full term, and did have some problems related to that, but my pediatrician said that there's a cut off when they worry and it was 5 lbs something. I want to say 5 lbs 5 oz? It was definitely well under 6 lbs, so I think you're fine.

Regaining at 2 weeks is great! Being small at birth doesn't predict being small later.

It doesn't matter how big the baby is -- just that they are growing at a healthy rate! And there's no way to say the baby will be small for their whole lives. My oldest was bigger than my youngest when he was born, but now they are almost the same height despite being 4 years different. My youngest is much taller and fuller (not fat) for his age than his older brother is. Enjoy your baby!

That is a normal size for a full term baby. Most babies are similar in size to their parents when they were born.

Boys usually take after the mom, so even he ends up shorter, it's perfectly ok. He's healthy and this is all that matters.

this is crazy. I was a little over 5 lbs and I'm 5'7 now. I'm assuming he was not IUGR, because the obgyn would have told you.

Who told you that was "very small"?

OP here. Family and friends.

Please don't worry. I'm sure they were just saying "Oh he's so tiny!" but not in a "he's sickly and emaciated!" way. I feel like this is just something people say. "He's so precious!" "He's tiny!" "What a chunk!"

My babies were small too- my full term baby was 6lbs 14oz and she's now 99th percentile for weight and height at age 6. My 33 weeker was 4lbs 10oz. DH and I are both very tall. Your baby is doing great!!

This - my DS was 6lbs at full term. He’s always been tall and skinny but very healthy and strong. Trust me once you start multitasking you’ll appreciate having a smaller baby - it’s easier to carry them in one hand 😊

My daughter was born 6 lbs 6 oz at 39 weeks and has been 90/95 percentile for weight and height since 4 months (1 next week!). My son was born 7 lb 1 oz at almost 41 weeks and he's been 70/90 weight and height since 6 months. I think your baby sounds fine!

I had two boys - oldest was 5 lbs 12 oz at 37 weeks on the nose, youngest was 6 lbs 3 oz at 37 weeks 2 days. They’re both tall and big now! 80th percentile on both height and weight at 5 and 1.5 years. The oldest was definitely touch and go for the first month or so due to reflux and poor feeding but he’s fine now. I am 5’8” but we do have a history of smaller babies in my family. I wouldn’t stress about it too much, chances are your baby will catch up pretty quickly.

this might make you feel worse, but I was 6 lbs 4 oz at birth, developed fast, always tallest in my class until I got my period at age 10. Overweight most of my life.

I am 5' 1 and had an 8 pound baby. She looked huge compared to the 6 pound babies but all are in the typical range. She ended up short like me.
