Deemed unsafe.
Lists of states updated on the "must quarantine". Deemed unsafe to travel to them.
Thousands of folks on the Mall from all over the country (ooh, maybe some of those "bad" states" even).
That is okay.
Stupid.
+1. Returning with my family to DC from a Covid hot zone next week. Spouse and I had planned to quarantine with kids at home before returning to offices, which are reopening next week.
No way in hell will I do that now. I’m tempted to ditch the masks as well. If Mayor Bowser doesn’t care any more about the citizens of our city than this, why the hell should I sacrifice?

Michael Osterholm pointed out in today's podcast that the protests didn't result in huge spikes in cases because they were outdoors and people were masked.
If you go jogging you should have a mask with you. But joggers without masks are not a huge threat. Be more worried about college students partying.
I totally believe in everything that blm stands for but the protests were about two to three weeks before we saw a huge jump in cases of covid among young people in July. They definitely contributed to the summer surge.
That was from people partying July 4th week.

So Mayor Bowser is solely responsible for public protests occurring on federal land? How convenient for you! First you travel — to a covid hot spot, then you want to blame ditching your masks — oh the sacrifice! - on the mayor. What a patriot!
What about those of us who have been wearing masks and physically distancing while people like you travel to covid hot spots? Your priorities are.....interesting.
Mayor Bowser could have stopped this and you know it. But she chose not to, either out of cowardice or misguided conviction. Either way she’s putting her personal political goals and ambitions ahead of what’s best for the people of DC
Another possible option is that she believes the whole mask thing is BS.
Terrible optics for a leader, anyway you look at it. If she doesn’t take Covid seriously why should we?

I have no problem with people protesting, but they are being bussed from all over which consists of spending several hours in an enclosed space with strangers. I am sure they were not all wearing masks. If that is okay, which I am fine with, then it needs to be okay to open up running tracks, pools, splash pads, museums, etc. I am so tired of people claiming it's okay not to following protocols at an important event but you must follow protocols when running on the side walk or going for a walk. It's nonsense.

I've see the reports saying there may have been some impact, and they also point to other much more high-risk, indoor activities occurring at the same time. And I don't believe Osterholm said zero impact, just not very large. This is in keeping with numerous reports now coming out talking about how we really need to focus on the risk from indoor activities.
Have you listened to the Osterholm Update? It's brilliant and as far as you can get from political. He even said masks aren't a panacea and got a lot of flack for it from the left. Sorry but he's a lot smarter than any of us. It really speaks to where we are as a country that even experts like him are seen as political.
COVID in CA skyrocketed. Did you not see the videos and pics of the protesters that were jam packed like sardines prior to CA's out of control COVID cases? The spike in COVID in CA literally perfectly coincides with the timing of the protests and a 2-3 week incubation period. The media and health authorities are just too PC to admit that the protesters contributed to the spread.
