1st child with ADHD (boy). 2nd child also a boy, does not have special needs so far. I know my family has genetic susceptibility to ADHD.

second child, born just as first developing signs, was IUGR (under 5 lbs at birth) and had apraxia of speech....now is completely neurotypical.

Yes, It is most common in the first born because they acquire 2/3 of mom’s toxin burden in utero. Due to high metabolic rate of the fetus and demand for calcium, Mom goes through temporary state of osteoporosis while pregnant. This allows the release of a lifetimes worth of toxins, most commonly lead that is stored in bone. But this is just part of the picture. Nearly all kids with autism have a gene variant called MTHFR that is involved in many important processes, not the least of which is detoxification. Folate acts through this pathway and many believe the use of synthetic folate found in most drug store prenatal vitamins is implicated in the development of autism. The reason is that Pp with MTHFR variants cannot properly utilize synthetic folate. It actually blocks real, dietary folate from the receptor and prevent real folate from getting into our cells. As a result, kids with autism are completely unable to detox and they hold on to toxins passed on by mom. Good news is that activated forms of folate, including the prescription form called leukovorin, can help many of our kids. Many success stories there. You can ask your doctor to test for MTHFR status, but if your child was born with a “stork bite” or “sugar bug” at birth, you can be pretty confident what you’re dealing with. I write none of this with the intention of making moms feel guilty or depressed. I hope it empowers some one to learn more and to help their child to live a healthier life

First, boy, but only recently diagnosed at age 7 with ADHD with sensory processing issues and impulse control disorder, and we had a DD when he was 2 years old. In hindsight there were things before then and around that age that could've been flags, but until we knew that they impacted daily activities in his life like school and home behaviors I doubt he would've been diagnosed.

If this was even remotely true, 80% of the world's special needs kids would be coming out of China over the past 10 years given the insane pollutants they are breathing in every single day. But we can obviously see it's not true.

And autism is not the spectrum of special needs. Cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, spina bifida...all fully represented in Asia in far greater percentages than 1 percent. Autism percentages are highly manipulable.

I am from China, and I came here to the states for college. And, you may not believe what I say, but I never knew or saw any autistic or noticeable special need child growing up there in China. My first child is SN & autistic , DH grew up here telling me that kids are so easily to be labeled with diagnosis here. He is doing fine with mild speech disorder & mild social deficit. Other than that, he looks like other kids. All of teachers are shocked when I tell them he is on spectrum.

Probably they were hiding their special needs kids due to stigma. ASD rates in other Asian nations is higher than in the US.

As a parent with a SN child who lived in China for many years, this.

Learning disabilities isn't a thing in China. You just aren't working hard enough. Work harder in school and that will solve everything.

Physical disabilities are hidden.

For those with behavioral issues, the parents are told to keep their kids home from school when the school evaluators visit.

1st has Autism, Dyslexia, and Anxiety
2nd has ADHD
3rd is NT so far as we can tell unless you want to count gawdawful stubbornness as a SN .. lol

First child. He was a preemie for unknown reasons. He suffered an oxygen deficit at some point, either in the womb or shortly after birth. I had ample and quality care. I had an OB and Perinatologist during my pregnancy. Second child is fine.

First and only, but not by choice. Secondary infertility.

Third daughter and the experience of having two other girls within 7 years helped a lot as we knew the community and the services. We do not regret staying in the same community based on giving her the best shot, Other two girls now live within 2 hours in the DC area.

Firstborn.

I was anxious during that pregnancy after several miscarriages and I think he had a ton of cortisol pumped through his system in utero.

First and almost an only. He needs so much time and energy and when he was little, I thought all babies were that draining.

I wound up having two more. Hard to know if they have SN yet though.
