She panicked. Which is unfortunate. But for an 18 year old still within hours of her first time away from home it is understandable that this could happen and she could actually be a good person. Not a great choice, but it is the schools who are the villains here: their plans are insufficient and negligent in many cases, including this one it seems. Students shouldn't have had the choice to be in this position. International students maybe. But not ones who live 3 hours away.

This sounds like the poster who said he "had no idea" if his kid was planning to protect himself from COVID because it was "time to cut the apron strings" since "he is an adult now."

1) Freshmen are still teenagers (not the most responsible stage of human development)

2) If you love a family member and you are dropping them off in a high risk environment (think cruise ship) during the pandemic of a lifetime...would you not want to discuss how to stay safe/healthy ahead of time?

I would’ve done the same thing. I think I would’ve fainted first from the ants in the blanket (not joking).
