Which is how most teens learn the sad way. The times it "worked" were dumb luck, emphasis on the dumb.

My wife is extremely fertile and she's never had any trouble getting pregnant. We did the pull-out method consistently for a whole year. No pregnancy. I made sure not to ejaculate near her vagina. It worked. She didn't get pregnant again until she insisted I cum inside her. Got pregnant on the first round.

I'm assuming the posters that are long term users of this method are also ones that have sex once a year? If you abstain of course it works!

This would be my attitude. We did this for 8 years and it was fine, no pregnancies. I think it is highly dependent on the guy. No issues when actually trying.

My 7 year old asked me if you can get pregnant having sex while dangling on a rope over an erupting volcano. I told her “yes, anytime sperm meets an egg it can lead to pregnancy.”

To the op - we had a window where we weren’t actively trying yet but we were also fine with the idea of ending up pregnant sooner than planned. We used withdrawal during those months. Later when I couldn’t get pregnant with our second my doctor counted those months toward months we’d had sex without protection. My nephew, who is now 13, exists because of (as his mother phrased it) “pull and pray”.

Pull out can work as long as you are okay w getting pregnant, and there’s probably some people who have biology that makes it work better. If done correctly it’s effectively is not that different than condoms....emphasis on the IF:

For some anecdata, I have been using this for 8 years w/ one accidental pregnancy. I don’t avoid the ovulation window. I’m also on the fence about more kids, would be generally happy w/a pregnancy, and if I was done for sure I would never use this method.

We’ve used the pull out method for 10 years and it has worked well for us. DH always pulls out, every time we sex. We have 3 kids, all planned. Our 3 kids are exactly 2 years 9 months apart. That being said, I would have preferred DH get a vasectomy but he refuses.

I wouldn't trust pull out unless I was really trying to get pregnant, if I wasn't on BC he would just have to use a condom. I love him to death but he doesn't always have the greatest self control and can cum quickly at times.

DH and I have been using the pull out method for 8 years before TTC. Worked perfectly before our planned pregnancy.

Don’t have sex during the 5 days surrounding ovulation and use pull out and you will be fine. This assumes that you have a regular cycle and can calculate when you are ovulating. (I can)

The pull out method works better than the not pull out method. Honestly, if you're going to start trying in January, doing this now might be a good thing. I'm not sure if your age, or if you have already had children, but if you're being "unsafe" before you start "trying", you can count those months if you need to move onto more aggressive conception methods. Most doctors will say wait a year, wait 6 months, etc before recommending IUI or IVF. If you really want to have kids, it's better to know if you're going to have issues with it sooner than later.
