They're not cotton but they have a cotton lining. My DD has been wearing hers at camp and hasn't complained. She prefers it to her Old Navy mask, which means I've done a load of laundry every night this week...

We’ve had good luck with the cheap $2 kids ones at Target for our 3 year old (the ones without the wire- not the Cat & Jack ones). I wear the same ones in the adult size and find them to be the most comfortable of the many I’ve tried. As far as keeping them on, peer pressure definitely plays a role. It also helps that we, as his parents, wear them consistently and make it clear to him that we can’t do things we enjoy, like the playground, unless we wear a mask when other people are around. In the beginning I tried explaining how masks help people from getting germs and getting sick, but it was too abstract a concept for him to grasp. I found just saying that “superheroes wear masks and so do we” was a lot more effective.

Oh, yeah, true, they're not cotton. I should try the cotton ones sometime.

Seems like different masks have different laundering instructions, but for the cotton ones that I have made, I put several at once in a lingerie bag (so the straps don't get all stretched out with the rest of laundry) and throw them in the washer and then the dryer. I do iron mine or press them with my fingers when I take them out, because they tend to get a bent out of shape.

Old navy ones have worked the best for my 2 and 4 yr old. We tried some neck gaiters that aren’t recommended and the kids didn’t like as well as the crayola ones which are ok but wrinkle pretty bad.

Question how do you wash cloth mask? Hand wash or throw them in laundry machine? Bleach or regular detergent?

How do you label your kid names on each masks? Permanent marker, cloth marker, sew name stitch by stitch, label sticker etc?

We've tried a number of these and they're all too big for my 4 year old's face and ears (I guess she has a particularly tiny face and head) so I've cut the ear loops in half so they become two loose strings and I've sewn elastic to the ends of what had been the loops; now she can easily pull the whole mask on and off her head like a headband and it holds more comfortably and tighter. Just a thought if anyone's having trouble with the ear loop aspect.
