BIL no. His girlfriend is a sweetheart though and I’d hang with her if they lived close by.

My husband's siblings and their spouses are all awesome, so yes. He's the youngest child by a number of years so they're all a older than us, but we get along great. My brother's wife is high maintenance and a pain in the ass, and she brings her parents everywhere. We don't have a contentious relationship or anything but I'm glad I only have to see her a couple times a year.

Definitely. If my SILs were not on the opposite coast, we’d be friends.

My husbands brother and sister are lovely. We don’t have a ton in common as they are significantly younger but they are very nice, warm and genuine people.

My brothers wife is not my favorite. Barely graduated from high school, doesn’t agree with vaccinations, thinks she knows everything and also is a Trump supporter. She also likes to drink a lot. I don’t really like my brother though so I’m fine with only seeing them a few times a year.

Probably not, just because I'm introverted and keep a very small circle, and they wouldn't be my first choice of friends. But I love them all, because they've been loving to me.

Two in-laws I would happily be friends with. One, absolutely not. For the first two, I get along really well with that sib and they married great people. For the third one, the sib has issues and the sib married someone with bigger issues.

No. We went to visit my BIL and his wife for thanksgiving one year. On thanksgiving Day, DH and I (plus his parents) were required to stay at home and celebrate alone while BIL and wife visited the wife’s parents for a big dinner celebration. They’ve made it pretty clear they don’t want us around.

One out of three. We have similar interests in movies and shows, similar sense of humor.

I like my SIL. We aren't terribly similar (nor are my brother and I for that matter), but she's very nice and we do work in the same field and have one genre of book that we both read, so there's enough to make conversations last. My brother is a lovely but complicated person and I can easily see that SIL "gets" him and complements him well. I'm happy she's in our family.

I really like SIL and BIL (DH's sister and BIL), but I can't imagine a scenario where I'd get to know them well enough to become their friends without DH. We just don't have a ton of interests in common.

It's good, though, because they are wonderful people...so I'm glad they are family.

What? How do you get that from the Pp’s post? They didn’t say whether the BIL they like is married to their sibling or whether it’s their dh’s brother or their DH’s siblings husband. It could be any of those and be their BIL.

My answer is I like all my siblings in law but probably would never have become friends w them if we met independently as we don’t have much in common.

You missed one, PP, that the favored male sibling-in-law is married to her brother . It’s 2020.

I thought I had that option covered when I said the favored male sibling in law could be married to pp’s sibling...but I will apologize for assuming pp is female and that pp is married to a man.

Actually, the pp didn’t miss that as they said “Whether the bil they like is married to their sibling.” A sibling can be either a sister or a brother in 2020.

I wouldn’t be friends with my own brother, that’s for sure. And definitely not DH’s brother who has major serious issues. DH’s sister and I are friends now but we are very different, so I don’t think we would’ve ended up in similar places or hit it off on our own.
