I live in Vienna also. Lots of teens no masks. Lots of no masks at Caffi field. Lots of families on bikes wobbling along in the streets. Very young kids who can barely manage their bikes. You have to be very careful driving in Vienna central area.
Mostly adults are wearing masks or staying home.
The Vienna Whole Foods is a “never mind social distancing zone”. It’s the employees and the the shoppers for delivery. Those folks don’t even TRY to social distance.
I’m sure it the same everywhere though.

I agree, but those are mostly not from Vienna. Waters field is kind of hard to control, as the land is owned by FCPS, but the town maintains it.

Personally, I think our new mayor has her head up her ass in regards to COVID.

Except the kids typically have small bubbles of friends, 4-5 kids. In school the bubbles surge. School would be open for two weeks max, as that is how long it is to identify an outbreak.

The here is a caveat. Masks not required with proper social distancing. Sports allowed with proper social distancing.
"Indoor and outdoor recreational sports should maintain ten feet of physical distance between all instructors, participants, and spectators, where practicable."

That is what is not happening.

We should not be in phase three. That's completely insane.

It's amazing how people cling to the states telling them certain phases are fine, when the reopenings drive increases in cases. You're all just looking for excuses to do what you like and damn public health or your "weak" neighbors and relatives who have the gall to be concerned or have chronic conditions.

I perfectly understand how viruses work and I understand how human immune system respond to it. So far, everything goes like it should be -- kids are getting exposed to the virus and building their immune system in response.

There are different degrees of risk associated with different activities. You may have convinced your kids that the strict stay-at home orders can never end for your family and no risk is acceptable and that's fine. But even health experts acknowledge that many people are going to be undertaking some social activities with friends and family at this point and accept the reality and relatively low risk of a "bubble".

DH and I have been mostly isolated since March. Full-time telework and trips to the grocery store. We have eaten outdoors one time (last week). DS (18) isolated with us from early March until late May. He got an outdoor job with a friend and added that friend to our bubble. He is the only person who has been in our house. Since early July, more kids have come out of isolation and my son's "bubble" probably includes 5 people. They are not going to any of the indoor facilities or businesses that have reopened. They are not wandering the streets of our town in packs. They are not coming into contact with the elderly or people with underlying conditions. They usually hang out on a porch or in a garage with an open door and avoid going indoors, using bathrooms, etc. They are not ruining your life.

I have a son who is a Type 1 Diabetic. He works 10hrs/day, 5 days/wk, and then does side jobs on the weekends. Working Line Clearance. Helps keep the power on. Spends all day every day climbing trees and cutting limbs off power lines. The chances of his dying while at work from some type of accident are MUCH higher than the chances of him dying from complications due to covid. He was shocked at work less than two months ago. Job hazard. Didn't kill him, so it's all good. I raised him to be tough, and to not use his diagnosis as an excuse. I expected the same from him as I did from my healthy children. He has gone into DKA twice, almost died both times. Of course he's going to die at some point. When he does, his kids will be without a father. Is that a reason for him to hide in his home? No, it is not. He spends his free time teaching his kids how to do tree work. They are younger than kindergarten age and they know how to clean up a job site, know how to drag brush, they know that his job is dangerous, and if one day he doesn't come home from work, they will be proud that their dad died doing what he loved.
My suggestion to all of you who are afraid to die is that you stay home and distance yourselves, while those of us who aren't afraid go out and continue to live our lives. Because death is inevitable.
