I initially thought I wanted to have girls, since I have a sister. I had 2 boys and I wouldn't change anything now. I mean they get wild and wrestle a lot, but I'm used to it. I hope there will be less teen drama as well.

NP - it's not that easy though, often someone needs to help coordinate, I found this out the hard way when my 65 year old mom got injured and my brothers were nowhere to be found so I coordinated care, grocery trips, dr's appts, etc.

Finally people say any thing just to make a comment, I have a good friend her husband is blond and she's a redhead. They have 3 kids who are all blonde, she's pregnant with a 4 th, and everyone says to her "maybe this one wikk be the redhead." .

I want a girl, because as a woman, it excited me to raise part of the next generation of women.

I however would be happy if my child is a boy, becuase they're cool as well.

I truly just want what will be only child to be healthy.

A lot of this is due to differences in the ways boys & girls are raised.

I think sometimes women want girls because they have preconceived ideas about how it'll go.

They want to replicate the mother/daughter relationship they had with their own mother.

They want their daughter to be the ballerina they never were or whatever.

I think that's setting up a relationship for failure anyway.

My cousin's first was a boy. Said she'd have another for sure, and if that was another boy, she'd probably have a third. Had two boys. Was pretty honest when she was pregnant with the third that she wanted a girl. It was a boy.

Two years later, pregnant again with #4. Everyone said "oh, really trying again for that girl!" Her response: "Nope! Now I want another boy! I've gotten so good at it! And I want my younger to have a playmate like my older two do. I can't start all over again with a whole other gender!"

She's got four boys, all in their late teens and 20s now, and is happy as a clam.

Maybe in your family but the boys in mine are WAY more helpful in this arena than the girls. For one thing, there's a doctor and an estate lawyer among the boys.

NP. I(first born girl) am the golden child who cut ties. My “cool” brother will be the one doing everything when the time comes.

Yeah I think the poster who made the generalization that "boys are not that helpful" and girls are way more helpful is full of outdated thinking. I'm the one whose family is the situation where the boys are close by (and have useful skills like medical backgrounds) while the girls all moved away and are busier or more distant.

I have two girls. But I am hoping that my girls marry great guys and looking forward to the possibility of having son-in-laws (who don't hate me ideally).

I never had a sister but my DH does and my brother married so I love having SILs. If we are lucky life is long and we get to experience lots of things, just not all at once!

Funny me too.

The lawyer does not understand anything but law .. Literally can trust him.with the simplest task.... and the doctor is too busy to help.with anything including medical decision. I'm an orthopedic not an oncologist...is an actual quote.

No. In general men and women want a healthy baby. I happened to get 2 boys, and that's great! 2 girls or one of each would also have been great but that's not the hand I was dealt.
