People's AC will will break, contractors will need to go out. Ditto for other emergency contractors - electric, plumbing, utilities, construction, etc. Fire/EMS need to work. People who work in long term care facilities cannot stay home (this is a big part of how covid spread). And regular hospital/medical staff. All those people have families, and live in households where the essential personnel needs to go out.

We're just going to have to live with this to a degree. If you're high risk, STAY HOME.

This, completely. I can’t believe the bubbles that people live in with no understanding of the real world. And, to echo other PPs, this is basically what we did in March—told two weeks and it went on for months. We just have to live with it, and those at high risk should take responsibility for themselves and stay home!

Anonymous wrote:No; it did not work in italy nor in spain. The Virus is still there, on a lower level but now the countries are opening and people come in as tourists or travel to countries like Kosovo or Serbia and bring the virus back. Keeping distance and wearing masks is more effective in the long run (and cancelling great gatherings).

Yes but I think only 2 weeks would be feasible.

Anonymous wrote:I mean a real hard shutdown. No grocery store runs. No McDonalds. No Home Depot. Emergency workers only on the streets, police to nab and send home everyone else. Kind of like what they did in Italy and a few other places to crush the virus spread, not just 'flatten the curve'.

In the Post today there are some advocating a hard shutdown as one of three scenarios going forward, but I'm not sure they'd get the public support for that option.

Should’ve happened in March. Too late now fool

+1. It won’t work.

+2 I’d fully support a mask mandate

I'm ok with this but only if it's going to be the whole country and not state by state. Part of the reason why we are having resurgence right now is because of different rules in different states.

Let’s be honest.....there’d be large scale unrest. It won’t work. Of course we’re headed towards that already. Things are going to spiral.

Yes, yes, yes

The trick is to REALLY do it, combined with rapid testing and tracing. Then when you have eruptions, they can be quickly contact traced and quarantined. That is the only way to beat this thing, short of a vaccine.

Yes, but I would like 2-3 weeks or more notice, so it’s not a crush to get supplies for a month.

Really, but why does everyone say that our problem is we never really locked down like China and Italy did? Which is it?

Because people don’t understand that Wuhan and N. Italy both locked down AFTER it had already infected most of their populations. That’s why the lockdown appeared to “work.” Compare to Sweden which also peaked and has now come all the way down also with no lockdown.

Plus, China is full of shit...can’t trust their numbers or what went on there. Makes no sense that they had unchecked spread in Wuhan for months and months...spread that left their country to infect the rest of the world, but, that the rest of China was relatively unaffected.

+1. It won’t work.

+2. The 2-4 weeks would become two more weeks. Then another two weeks. Then it’ll be “until there’s a vaccine”.
