The Gates of Hell are located on Stanford’s campus.

Don’t be stupid. Read the question - they’re asking why someone would choose Harvard over Stanford not vice versa.

Yeah, I always wanted to be an undergrad on a campus bordered by a mall, a mausoleum, a high school, and a golf course!

Some parents supported (not that it was anyone’s business) but others were shocked she would turn down Harvard. I feel like the education is of the same quality, Stanford is known for caring for undergrads more (though not significantly), and Palo Alto > Cambridge. If you would pick Harvard over Stanford, why?

Depends on major, OP. There is your answer.

Harvard yield is 82%
Stanford yield is 82%

So what this is saying is that someone is as likely to pick Stanford as they are Harvard. This should not come as a surprise.

I picked Harvard because I was rejected from the school where I really wanted to go, which was CU Boulder.

Our California-based niece picked Stanford over Harvard for some of the logistical reasons mentioned, but also because for her program Stanford was slightly stronger and for her eventual career she wanted to be in Silicon Valley. She also felt the 'vibe' was better there than it was at Harvard
