NP poster here, but OP said 3 .5 year old and 5 year old. NOT a 1.5 year old!

My boys LOVED...LOVED camp this week. It was SO good for them and so very needed. It was very good.

I’m stuck on the pool because you can only reserve for an hour, and the last 10 minutes are adult swim. We can reserve 6x a week, not 2. We could do more if it’s not crowded, and we can stay longer if it’s not crowded. I’m trying to get more info from people who are current members but it isn’t easy. It is a huge gamble to spend the money for what might be 50 minutes a day.

I am so glad ours opened this summer. We go everyday for two hours in the afternoon. When my kids were your kids age, I always had everything reorganized the night before and ready to go.

The huge caveat is that we might be limited to 2x a week!

That sucks. Ours is at 75% capacity. But I yet to be here with more then 60 people and there is plenty of room to spread out.

I'm curious, however, where you live that you have options for either a pool membership right now or in person camp for preschoolers. I'm in Arlington where I am used to crazy long waitlists for anything like that.

I’m not in DC. Sorry.

We would go to visit family if we chose camp. If I chose pool, we likely won’t leave in August.

Also in Arlington and my guess if she’s asking now that she’s been offered a partial season rental.

Anonymous wrote:Will your pool allow for same day reservations, i.e., that would permit you to go more than a few hours a week? We just got our membership and even though we can only sign up for two weekday and one weekend slot in advance, we've been able to go daily thanks to the same day option. It's never super crowded. If so, I'd do that and aim to take them earlier in the day, when it's less crowded.

Camp is great but only one more week? Less helpful.

Yes. One hour before you can check to see if there is availability.

Camp. My kids are 3.5 and 6. They are
At preschool / camp now AND we have a pool membership. I view camp time now as “filling their tank” socially and emotionally before fall and who knows what that will bring.

The process to get our weekly 90 min spot at our pool for “family time” has been a hassle - maybe it’s easier for you to use if you are not working during the day and the available times don’t mess with nap schedule.

My answer changes to pool if you or your partner will also swim laps 1-2x a week. Swimming laps before my kids wake up is my favorite way to start my day.

This has been such a shitty year, I would blow up the budget to do both.

Except 2x a week through September is still WAY better than only 1 week of camp. At the end of the one week of camp, then what? You have to entertain them all day with no option to swim/tire them out. I'd choose pool hands down. Or find a 1/2 day camp that goes multiple weeks.

Our pool has same day sign ups, that don't count against your weekly total. Sometimes they are for the less ideal times (like only a 45 minute slot, instead of 90 minutes) but I'd still totally do that.
