I’m so sorry. This is tough.

If I were you, I would have your husband deal with the kids while you are working.

Most of this is open around here.

Just seeing what fun things everyone found to do with their kids.

We have been busy swimming in the lake, camping in the yard, going to the drive in and just wrapped up two nights at a hotel with a pool.

What are yo u doing to help your kids have a great summer?

OP, did you never spend time with your kids before? Did you ship them off to camp every summer? You are posting very mundane things, that may or may not violate local stay at home orders, and acting like you have discovered fire.

We're having a low key summer and the kids understand why. They don't need a circus of entertainment to feel grateful for our lives. We hike, play tennis, play board games, try out hobbies and new restaurants. Hose and water fights in the yard. The kids sleep late, stay up late, and socialize with friends online. Older DS did a book drive in our neighborhood for a local organization that gives out free books. Next, he's going to learn to repair and paint a wall I haven't had time to deal with. Younger DS has special needs and has started homeschooling early. Both kids are doing more chores around the house. I've cleaned out the mudroom and the guestroom. Everyone would prefer a fabulous vacation, but everyone is taking it in stride.

This. Clearly she feels the need to be fawned over by strangers, either directly (by hearing how wonderful of a mother she is) or indirectly (by reading posts which she deems not as exciting as her own).

FWIW, the above poster is correct. Her post is largely filled with mundane things, except maybe going to a hotel. The cost of the hotel was probably more than 1/3 of our entire summer pool dues and our family could go daily if we wanted.

Actually, it was meant as a idea generator for what fun things we could do with our kids during difficult times, as opposed to "we're bunkering down all summer and committed to not going anywhere of having any fun!!!!"

Are the things mundane? Largely. Are they more fun than sitting in your house and yard? Yes, for most of us, I'd say.

Ugh I just want this whole thing to be over.

+1

My kids are only 5 and 3.5, but we are STRUGGLING.

PHASE 3 come on!

I am in Southern NH. We have been doing a lot of beach and lake trips. And biking. DS was thrilled to find out an arcade was open at the beach boardwalk yesterday. Everyone had to wear masks and there was ample hand sanitizer available. I was actually pretty impressed.

We have slowly gotten together with some friends and hung out at their pools.

Some playgrounds and mini golf will be opening this weekend. As are amusement parks, movie theaters, and similar venues. I don't anticipate we will go to those yet.

We are fortunate in that we have seen a consistent decline in both cases and hospitalizations over the past few weeks.

Do you not have weekends off or any vacation time?

I spent $150 on a huge blow up slip and slide that has already paid for itself. We made a summer fun checklist and are checking things off of it. It’s easier with little kids who get excited to check off “make lemonade.” Our pool opened this week with limitations, so we will get to go 3x a week. Definitely more screen time than usual, but also more reading time than usual. I do feel that I’m hyping the “best summer ever” thing a little to compensate, but I think it’s more for my morale than my kid’s.

No I’m in Arlington. Sandy beaches at Matapeake Beach park in MD and Greenbriar State Park in MD -both are an hour or less drive. Playground adventures locally and also I googled “best playgrounds” and we are checking them out- example at Patapsco State Park in MD (google Tire Playground). Paradise Valley a winery, absolutely no problem for kids, there were many and they were all enjoying themselves on their lawn. Dirt Farm Brewery- same. Little Gym is open for gymnastics camp as of next week. Swim school is open for private lessons as of a week or two ago. We opted for private instead of classes bc the kids are always coughing and sneezing on each other in the pool. I don’t go to bars. We have done outdoor dining but just with our bubble. And yes I know my post had an obnoxious tone-it was in response to OP’s obnoxious tone.

We are in the Midwest now staying near MIL in a family home. Have plans for the drive in tomorrow and making a zoo reservation for next week.

Tons of beautiful lakes here, too, so we will be able to swim all summer. Going out to eat (restaurants here at 50 percent) and having socially distanced gatherings every weekend.

Dh and I are both working remotely and teen has a 6 week job lined up starting in July.
