DH's parents live two day drive away. We're going next week. His mom has Parkinson's and honestly I don't know how many more years the kids will have to enjoy her at her best. Other sibs are not visiting, and I think judging us for doing it. But we're all doing our best. We are driving not flying and have a family house we can use as a halfway sleep point.

Parents live a flight away. Father is in the high risk category. We are not visiting until there is a vaccine. Don't want to risk going on a flight. Everyone has their own reasons and no one should judge. Do what's best and what you think is right for you and your family.

Virtual hugs. My parents are in Florida--Pinellas County, which is a major hotspot. My dad is 70, my mom has lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I'm deeply concerned about them, I want to see them (my family was supposed to visit them the first week of April, obviously that didn't happen), but I, personally, refuse to take the risk that I may expose them. This is an awful situation.

It's one summer. We can wait. We'll spend more time with them during the next opportunity.

My brothers family is flying. They live out west. DC and NYC people (half of whom left) are very scared and privileged.

I can't even visit my family until the border opens. They keep extending the closure. For now, we have hours long phone calls and video calls everyday. I plan to visit as soon as they open the borders. If DH gets furloughed around the same time and they reopen the border we plan to spend the entire time with my family in Canada. My ILs live a driveable distance away (2.5 hours) we already visited them.

We are flying out to see my parents in two weeks.

I can't figure out how people think testing would help with any of this.

We are dealing with my hysterical MIL who thinks we are personally punishing her by not being willing to get on a 6 hour flight to visit. If you’ve never seen a grown woman have a hissy fit, it sure is a treat. Sorry, not sorry. If we could drive to them, we’d consider it, but we can’t realistically drive 3000 miles. Non essential air travel is not happening.

Your father still goes to his workplace but you think he shouldn't see members of his own family? You're joking, right?

Getting tested before does nothing if you then hop on a plane.

Nothing. I talk to my father maybe once a month and to my mother a few times a year. Generally I see them once a year when they come to town for my niece's birthday but she probably won't have a party this fall.
