I'm not sure about people not believing it, but my daughter's going to an SLAC and every time we mention, someone raves about it - even if they didn't go there. They'll know someone who did and loved it, for example.

See I used to think that but some state schools like Michigan and Wisconsin have really loyal grads, even though their giving rates are dismal


Some schools' alums talk with their mouths. Others talk with their checkbooks.

Alumni giving is as good a proxy as any. Plus Princeton and Williams often are ranked the top university and top college for undergraduate education, so it makes sense.

Mary Washington. I know so many people who went there (almost all women, not surprisingly) who just rave about it. And they are all quite successful.

And no--didn't go there. We toured it with my son, who was accepted, but chose a very different school.
