Happened to my blonde nieces. They started with purple and green hair and now have tattoos all over their bodies. Now that they are aging and have their own children they look absurd.

+1. Also, what race are you? It depends on whether you're Asian, black or have black Caucasian hair. It's very, very hard to get dark brown/black hair to hold color without bleaching it first. And if you bleach it yourself, it can fall out. My sister in law's hair fell out in clumps when she did it herself. She was dyeing it gray and did a lot of research beforehand.

No better time to do it. Personally I wouldn’t feel comfortable with the permanent bleach and then color route, but there’s no real right or wrong here.

Hair wax sounds like it might be a good, temporary and non-damaging option. I have been getting ads for Common Panda.

I looked at Overtone for my dark-haired son and the results seem mixed and it’s pretty expensive.

Pp again. The semipermanent works on blonde or bleached hair. Not brown or dark hair. This is why, if you don’t have experience with hair color, do talk with your wife. We don’t know how long / original color of your dd’s hair. Also, run allergy test a couple of days before coloring.

This. How long is her hair? If long, it would take time to grow out again, if shorn, no problem. Would your dd be ok with temporary spray colors? If you’re considering permanent color, suggest you in secret discuss it with your wife first.

One of DD's friends used SPLAT. I believe it comes out in 30 washes.

Why do people have problems with this? If you are so controlling about an individual's hair, what else do you overly control?

Get semi-permanent. It's fun and it'll wash out. Dark hair is tough, though. Buy a couple of different brands and shades and see if any work on her. My dark haired son tried a couple and the crimson red worked the best but it's only a tint, not full color. Since he has short hair, I offered to let him bleach it and then color it but he said naw.

My 9 year old DD has medium blonde hair and really wanted it to be teal at the ends. We used Arctic Fox and it turned out great, but her hair is light so it took the color well. It's been two weeks and it's 75% faded. She's not going anywhere right now and I could easily trim the bottom 2" of her hair if she got tired of the color.
The people who say tattoos are next are being ridiculous, and most of them are probably lamenting their own hair color right now because they can't go to the salon.

Thanks all. Long story short mom might not approve but I’m willing to risk sitting in the doghouse for this wish. She really wants it. (And I dyed my hair in MS).

But bleaching sounds too much trouble nd risk than I could handle so will try overtone and wax as suggested.
