Janeese is earnest, but her extreme position on crime is dangerous and ignorant.

This is how I feel. I really don't like George's position on crime but I do like her endorsement by Racine.

I loathe Todd, though. He and his supporters brag about his constituent services but I found them extremely lacking. The one time I reached out I had a conversation with a staffer (Carnes) who said he'd look into my issue and call me back with a solution. He never did; after a week I called him back and left a message. Left 6 more unreturned messages. Then to put a cherry on top, Todd knocks on my door asking for my vote and when I tell him I had a bad experience with his office his response was "no you didn't, constituent services is my strength!" (I am absolutely not making this up, that's a quote.)

So I think I'll vote George and hope for the best, because she has the best chance of unseating him. Although if my mailbox is to be believed Todd has infinity dollars to spend on outreach so it might be tough.

I don't know...I am undecided who to vote for but the Shepherd Park listserve has been super active with this debate and there is certainly strong support for George (and also strong support for Todd). The other candidates have gotten zero mentions so she at least has that going for her- often incumbents stay in office because newcomers split the vote (as I fear might happen in Ward 2)

Yeah, I don’t understand the criticism that George lacks experience, given that Todd was inexperienced when he joined the Council.

I support JLG's position that we need to do better by our youth. I firmly believe that we need more educational and mental health supports in schools for special needs and trauma. This will provide a better future, but what do we do in the meantime about the current criminals?

You know, I’d like this too, but I don’t have a great impression of Todd from personal encounters, and he doesn’t really seem to stand for much of anything besides doing whatever the Mayor says. I’m concerned that his challenger seems young/inexperienced, but she seems principled. Her endorsements vs. his endorsements say a lot.

Even if Shepherd gets cut out of Wilson at some point—and I honestly think that’s years and years away—there’ll be a period of grandfathering. So I’m not too concerned for my kids or house value.

An unscrupulous developer on our block brags that Todd will be sure he gets a permit or a blind eye from DCRA to do whatever he wants. That's enough for me. I signed on with Janeese the minute a Todd sign went up in the house-wrecker's yard.

That I can understand, although I am not sure I agree.

The refusal to lock up violent criminals and to treat the police as the problem, I can’t understand. (This isn’t to say that police are never the problem or don’t do bad things. But that shouldn’t be her default assumption and she needs to understand that police are part of the solution, although of course not the only part.)

I want my trash picked up on time. I want someone who will hold DC Water and the post office accountable for services. I want to know what they plan to do about schools and education. What are the respective positions on a Ward 4 middle school and keeping Shepherd in bounds for Deal/Wilson?

You think their position on ICE is irrelevant but you want them to have a plan for the US post office?

I am interested in this new candidate. Anyone who isn't beholden to developers has my vote. My hesitation is on crime. While I agree that mass incarceration has failed and refer a public health approach, the implementation of these ideals has led to police allowing criminals free reign. When we find a way to successfully implement a public health approach, then I will happily vote for a candidate with that inclination.

Ward 4 already has two middle schools. How many do you want?

Do you want someone who's going to roll over to the mayor and her contributors on those? Then vote Brandon Todd.

Do you want someone independent who is only beholden to us and willing to do the right thing? Then vote Janeese Lewis George.

The PP asked questions regarding issues, and you respond with platitudes and generalities.
