Seeing as there are people on this site complaining about people going out, and shaming people for being in public, maybe this is about being in a gated community with restricted access. You feel safe there because you can control the exposure. Someone gave out the code, and now everyone is at risk.

I know most of you could see a post here saying OMG, my neighbor had movers, and their kids waved to my kids, so now we are all going to die. Admit it

1. He's delivery driver. He's responsible for the goods that he's supposed to deliver. If he left the stuff there, he could've been fired or held responsible for the cost of the goods. So in practical terms- holding his goods hostage, holding him hostage- same difference.

2. No one has an obligation to respond to a bunch of random strange people on street.

3. This would've occurred to a white delivery driver.

4. I would've been pissed off. It's an understandable reaction in that situation.

Sorry, but what the "HOA president" did was not legal. They illegally detained a person. They have no right to the information that they asked for. And the driver would actually get into trouble and would possibly lose his job if he gave out any information about his company's clients. If the HOA needs information of which residents are getting deliveries and/or giving out the code to the gated community, they would need to make an official written request to the company, not the driver, and most likely the company would require that they had a proper court order for such information.

They have no grounds for detaining the driver or blocking in his vehicle. And in the current atmosphere, if they have not similarly detained other drivers of other races, the driver could file this as a criminal charge of false imprisonment and as a hate crime. If the driver chooses to make a case of this, this will end up being very bad for the HOA president and/or the HOA (if he tries to use HOA funds to cover his legal expenses if he claims he was acting on behalf of the HOA). At a minimum, it would cost a huge amount in legal fees, most likely they would have to settle the case which would also cost the person or the HOA a fair chunk of money. This will not end up well for the HOA if the driver makes an issue of it. The driver was more than tolerant. If I were him, I would have called the police myself after about 10 minutes. It looks like Stewart only pretended to call the police since they never came.

How do you get through the day? He did not say David Duke, surprise his name is actually David, so he told him his name. I guess if you look for racism in everything, you'll find it.

He said David Stewart (which is his actual name), not David Duke. And the captor volunteered that information because he said “you want to take my picture, now you have my name too”. Then he had the audacity (shocking!) to call the driver’s job after this blew up and demand that the driver take the video down. Too bad for him it’s been shared thousands of times.

1) No one here is a cop
2) There are stories out there about police brutality involving white victims
3) Having white victims does not somehow invalidate the racism that exists in other cases

Please. How is he a victim? Victim shaming much? Too many people think they are above the law because of the color of their skin. The HOA guy had no business blocking him in. With everything going on in this crazy world, I would’ve gone live too or called the cops immediately myself. This is NOT okay.
