Everyone saying white will be dated is wrong. The cabinets will not date the kitchen. Everything surrounding the cabinets (quartz counters, backsplashes, handle styles, appliances, etc) will date the kitchen. To extend the life of having an updated kitchen, choose natural materials (stone) and non-trendy finishes (e.g. do not use black fixtures). But ultimately, pick what you like! You're the one who has to live with it.

I love those pictures and am thinking of doing something similar when we redo our kitchen. My last two kitchens were white and the look is getting old. I think blue cabinets are already starting to look dated too.

We redid our kitchen five years ago. White was popular then and there was no way I was going to go that way. We are also messy. We went with a very dark walnut (sort of like espresso but you can see the wood grain/slab front/brushed nickel hardware). It's wearing well. Watkins Cabinet Company in Frekerick. All custom work.

I'd do wood, but if you're thinking about resale (or just liking it long-term), don't do the grayish wood of the first picture. That's going to be dated fast.

In general, though, don't worry about timeless. There are classics, but something that's a classic is never going to look fresh. Classic by definition can't be up-to-date.

I did. We live in a 100 year old house with some darker wood. I tried to match it and got quarter sawn oak in a medium brown. The backsplash is white subway tile and the countertops are London Grey Caesarstone. It looks awesome! We also only have 2 upper cabinets and lots of windows.
