Not even close to the same thing, you idiot. The point of a baby or wedding shower is to shower the first time mother or first time bride with gifts. You are invited to a wedding to participate.

A high school graduation announcement is unbelievably tacky and rude as you aren’t inviting the receiver anywhere - just telling them your kid finished high school.

That’s different. Those activities are specifically to provide gifts - hence the word shower. A graduation is not to provide gifts. That activity is to graduate. Also, 99.99% of the people who were going to send your kid a gift anyway, already know your kid is graduating. It’s a gift grab, like showers for second babies or second weddings. Obviously you believe in them but it doesn’t change the fact that they are gift grabs.


And showers and weddings were likely and invitation to an event. People wouldn’t have an issue if OP was asking for wording on for a graduation party invitation. Wedding announcements or baby announcements are also tacky.

I love them and don’t find them tacky. I’d rather send an 18 year old a check than grown adults wasting money on expensive weddings.

This! I have little kids and work full time and can’t really keep track of all of the cousins I only see every 5 years or so. I am thrilled to get the photo announcements. And yes I am also happy that I can send them some cash to have at college. I felt like a real adult the first time I could do that for family instead of always receiving the gifts.

I would put 2020 or something like “COVID class of 2020” but then again I’m not a formal person.
