No, it wouldn’t make sense to run one person’s few dishes through a cycle in the dishwasher. One person’s laundry, however, can easily fill up the washing machine. I’m confused that you think it’s so utterly bizarre for an adult to be able to handle their own chores around the house?

My husband does all the laundry. I occasionally might throw in a load of laundry for the kids if they need a sports uniform washed for the next day and I am home first.

This. My husband does 90% of the laundry and he knows what’s supposed to go in a bag and what gets hung to dry. Has he messed up a few times? Yes. Is it worth doing my own laundry? No.

Two adults and two kids (10 and 13). Everyone does their own laundry. Often I’ll do my 10 year old’s laundry because she’s disorganized and forgetful.

I usually do my husband’s laundry, just because I’m home more, but I don’t usually co-mingle our clothes. Since we’ve all been home he’s done his himself. I don’t want anyone else in the house to do mine because they’d do it wrong.

We have one house hamper,,but with different bags on the inside - whites, darks, etc. So when it’s laundry time, someone pulls a full bag out and does that load. We also do sheet and towel roundups.
But we’ve also learned from this board that there are people who wash every single item every single time - never use a towel twice, etc. If my spouse did that, they’d be on their own.

My husband has very specific settings and ideas about how his laundry should be done. I grew tired of his micromanaging so now he does his own laundry. I do the laundry for the rest of the house (me + 2 kids)

This is a stupid comment unless you know how else the household divides up their chores, from reading the comments there are various reasons why folks do or do not do their spouse's laundry! Maybe the spouse does all the cooking and cleaning, or whatever but doesn't mean it's the 1960s! You claiming that means you probably didn't read the comments WOW how chauvinist to assume that their partners don't do anything else

I set aside and do my own laundry for anything that requires a delicate cycle, lay flat to dry, or any other kind of special treatment. Spouse does all of the regular laundry, for which we share a hamper. Kids each have their own hampers.

Back in our 20’s when we lived in buildings with coin op in the basement, we did it together. And DH washed and ruined several of my dry clean only dresses. Now that we are in a house, we do separately. I would do his if he wanted but he prefers to his own. So I do mine and the kids and he does his. Works perfectly.

I used to do it for the whole family because I’m particular about which things are washed on certain cycles and which are hung to dry. It was annoying to do DH’s since he changes clothes constantly, but since I was doing mine and the kids, it seemed more efficient. Then we hired a nanny/housekeeper who has done everyone’s but mine and teen DD’s for the past few years. She’s not coming during COVID times, and I was interested to see that my DH, who has never operated the washer and dryer in the 20 years we’ve lived here, automatically started doing his own laundry and our 11 y/old DS’s. At the start, I overheard him asking teen DS how to work the washing machine and how much detergent to add. I laughed (and tip-toed away).
He’s also doing all the vacuuming, which is delightful!

Nobody says that either way is superior PP. I think think that from both sides, the other side seems silly or something that has never occurred before. In my case, I would never only do my laundry. We also have big machines so everybody’s clothes (5 people) are washed together. Kids are still young so it’s usually me that does it all, but when occasionally DH does it, he does everybody’s too. We also have a housekeeper that does our laundary half the time and washes everything together...
