Post 04/29/2020 10:34     Subject: When will you allow play dates?

We are in Virginia/Loudoun County. We haven’t let the kids play outside with neighbors yet but will probably start that around 5/9 when the businesses start to reopen. Then definitely want to start seeing other local friends in small groups on 6/11.

Yes the dates are somewhat arbitrary but there isn’t much to go on so we are somewhat tying it to the dates given by the state for businesses.

Anyone else over this? Feeling the quarantine fatigue....

Can we at least move to phase 1 reopening? A playground? A picnic table?

will i single handedly destroy the universe if I let my kid play outside with a soccer ball with another kid?? Because I’m thinking about it.

And I’ve given up on trying to limit sugar and screen time. Chocolate chips and an iPad for breakfast - fine, if I can work for an extra 20 min.

And I’m not paying for another Zoom anything...no zoom dance, no zoom music class, no zoom yoga, zoom preschool is torture... I’m not making another teacher directed freaking construction paper/pipe cleaner/ glitter project - no thank You.

just put me out of my misery already...

Anyone else hit the wall???

I will monitor the infection rates and decide based on that.

Play dates are one of my lowest priorities. The kids haven’t seen their local grandparents yet! Risking our health and possibly lives for a fricking play date is beyond stupid for the foreseeable future.

We made plans to have a play date this weekend.

Not for a long time. As a scientist in biomedical research, I will determine when the right time is for my family.

We will not do play dates until there are very low levels of Covid in the community. Like back at February levels. Until then, zero playdates.

We don’t have a SIP in VA.

We have a stay-at-home order until June 10

But aren't gatherings of up to 10 allowed. Which I think is stupid but...

No. You are supposed to STAY AT HOME. That's what a stay at home order means.

This is what the order says:

1. All individuals in Virginia shall remain at their place of residence, except as provided below by this Order and Executive Order 53. To the extent individuals use shared or outdoor spaces, whether on land or on water, they must at all times maintain social distancing of at least six feet from any other person, with the exception of family or household members or caretakers. Individuals may leave their residences for the purpose of:
a. Obtaining food, beverages, goods, or services as permitted in Executive Order 53;
b. Seeking medical attention, essential social services, governmental services, assistance from law enforcement, or emergency services;
c. Taking care of other individuals, animals, or visiting the home of a family member;
d. Traveling required by court order or to facilitate child custody, visitation, or child care;
e. Engaging in outdoor activity, including exercise, provided individuals comply with social distancing requirements;
f. Traveling to and from one’s residence, place of worship, or work;
g. Traveling to and from an educational institution;
h. Volunteering with organizations that provide charitable or social services; and
i. Leaving one’s residence due to a reasonable fear for health or safety, at the direction of law enforcement, or at the direction of another government agency.

Going for a play date is not listed here. Why is this so hard?

We have an order stating that you can't leave the house to go to a friend's house. Does that work for you?

Isn’t it technically allowed now? Social gatherings of 10 or less is allowed.

You’re technically supposed to be 6 feet apart.

I do let my kids ride bikes, etc. in the neighborhood and a lot of kids live near us. I tell them to try to stay apart and show them they should each have their arms out wingspan distance apart etc. I guess there’s a fine line between what’s a play date and what’s impromptu seeing people out on the street. We do the latter but I suppose I would make plans with other kids whenever that’s allowed.

Once a friend agrees. We are ready for outdoor play, walk, bike, hang out.

We’ve started doing them with cousins. They’re only seeing each other and my only child needs the social interaction

I made an agreement with one of DD’s friends, we only do play dates with them and vice versa starting this week.
