It is hard to see how a summer season would work, even assuming it were safe. First of all, there would be fierce competition for early morning and evening field time, when it is not boiling hot. Second of all, kids would be going on vacation, to visit family etc. It might be hard to field a full team.
. Omg. Who is going on vacation this summer?

Also can’t they do video review of kids etc. I’m pretty sure they can evaluate kids based on video, team and a few speed specs.
This is not correct that the season is over, and people should only plan for the fall. Our club had a call with all of the boys and girls managers at the end of last week. Things are fluid, to say the least, but just as the gov't, businesses, schools, etc. are planning for all the different possibilities, so too are the soccer clubs and leagues. According to our club:
- a couple of leagues are planning for the possibility of "spring" games being played in June and July. Same is true for tournaments. For example, Jeff Cup has already set weekend dates in July for the various boys and girls weekends.
- State Cup is planning for the possibility of playing all its games over the summer.
- Super Y is similarly being flexible in approach, depending on what happens with the "spring" portion of the season for these other regular season leagues. Super Y may also just have compressed games in August or a tournament or two in August.
- our club will make roster offers for next year to existing players as early as next week. There will not be any tryout for kids already in the club before these offers go out.
- there will be an "official" tryout for boys and girls from outside the club. Under the best case scenario where league play will re-commence in June and July, the date of the official tryout could be early June.
All of this is, of course, subject to real-world events and decisions that will be made by federal, state and local governments, etc. So who the hell knows.
Sure jeff cup? That will be a tough sell. Play will most likely be limited to state play. Most colleges are talking about coming back in November but youth soccer will crank it up in June or July, travel to a multi state tournaments...hard to see. Maybe your club is just string you along.

People are saying maybe June or July just to keep hopes up and string us along. Plus there are way too many parents who won't allow their kids to play even if they do allow training in the summer. I believe Fall at the earliest for games.
People are not going to keep being hermits for the high risk.
Sure, maybe your and my kid will be out there, but there will be ALOT of kids not allowed. Alot people will not be ready to send their kids out to play soccer in June with no treatments available, etc. What will the liability be to the clubs? Will the clubs and coaches want that responsibility? Will the clubs want this headache?
So far, nationwide, 14 total deaths for under 25 year old age group (1 of them under 14). https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
I completely understand people who have family members in high risk categories keeping their kids home, but I'm happy to have my children outside in the sunlight (which they are now saying is a good thing against the virus) playing soccer. They won't go visit my mom in her retirement community, maybe for months due to restrictions, but get the facts on the danger of this at the younger ages. Not saying they won't be sick, but it's not ebola.

Think of all the drill work, juggling, running, etc. that the kids are currently doing by themselves, except in June (perhaps) they will be doing it with their coach and teammates. Passing and shooting drills would also be easy to do while maintaining social distancing.
Small sided games and scrimmages would be Phase 3.
OK, Coach/TD/DOC/Crazy Soccer Dad. Wow, work the boards to offer hope so you don't go defunct.
My kid will be back in school by the fall, somewhere, and so will many others. They will certainly be playing sports. It’s obviously fine if your family chooses differently. Might be useful for all of us to bring a little more humility to our predictions and a lot less intolerance to the opinion of others.
