Yep. This. I have to get down to a certain weight before I even attempt running. If I’m carrying too much weight, it just kills my knees. In the meantime, I ride my bike a lot. It keeps my legs strong and seems to strengthen my knees, so it really prepares me for running. I once ran a 5k without training at all, but I had been riding my bike. I had my best 5k time ever.
OP, if running makes you miserable, just don’t do it. Find whatever exercise you hate the least and stick with that.
