That’s also a sign that the tests themselves are garbage. They’ve been highly inaccurate since day one.
I've been reading about this- there are four possibilities, most likely to least likely (from what I've read):
1. Test flaw
2. Virus dips for a short time below detectable levels then surges back up (maybe the patient didn't rest and recoup enough or a weaker immune system didn't clear all of the virus)
3. Virus reactivates (this is scary but less likely than scenario one or two)-- and would mean that a vaccine is the really the only way forward
4. Re-infection
