I see a lot of people preparing how not to get sick. What should we do to prepare to be sick?

Yes. He’s been with me since day 1 of my symptoms. He can’t go to his dads because he is twice as sick as me. This is when being a single parent sucks the most. No one was willing to help with childcare (don’t blame them) but many friends bought us supplies. He is better and won’t be tested unless he gets sick again. Would love for him to get antibody test when available. He mostly had GI symptoms and also some eye discharge that we thought was pink eye. Yes, caring for him for about 4-5 days was very hard. If he wasn’t a fairly mature and independent child for his age or any younger I do not know what I would have done. No plan if I need to go to hospital. Ex is being cared for by his wife.

It seems like diarrhea isn’t common but it’s not rare.

I think GI issues alone is probably a stomach bug or FP.

OP - fwiw, my friend (with asthma) was initially provided steroids and had a really horrible reaction. So it is probably a good thing they didn’t give you steroids.

I have mild asthma that can turn into bronchitis. I'm worried and trying to be prepared as I can be since I live in high-rise building in NYC. TIA

I took an expectorant when the chest tightness started that tore up my stomach but I think helped keep mucus thinner. Do not take a combo of expectorant and cough suppressant. Was told never to take cough suppressant but please ask your doctor because everyone seems to have a different plan of action depending on symptoms and overall health.

I took Guaifenesin.

I’m not sure if albuterol helped. I have had something that feels like bronchitis now that I’m feeling better and it helps that but didn’t really help the chest tightness or SOB. Breathing exercises and learning how to cough properly helped more than anything. Did not use nebulizer btw because it can make the virus spread worse for some reason. Used inhaler. Maybe it did help. It’s different from asthma for me but again mine is mild. I didn’t have wheezing it was all a feeling in my lungs, deep in my lungs felt “wet” and heavy and (gross) what I’m coughing up is different from normal. Thicker and darker and has a distinct taste. I think mucus thinner helps. I don’t think being asthmatic made it any worse. If I was severely asthmatic I could see it triggering bad attack.

I don’t feel guilty about the tv. I felt guilty that if something had happened to him I wouldn’t have been able to do anything I don’t think. I could barely speak during the bad waves.

It was scary to know I had no one who could help.

- Self isolating since March 17th. My son was with his dad this weekend. We have split custody. Not sure how well they were practicing social distancing. I hadn’t left my house at all. Groceries delivered. Son dropped off. Only time we left was when I got tested.

- Just prescribed meds to treat symptoms. Albuterol inhaler, extra strength acetaminophen.

Some people have been prescribed steroids, antibiotics to prevent pneumonia. I was not.

- No, I went to the drive-thru testing center in Holmdel. I was in line for maybe 30 minutes. Efficient. Ex was tested in hospital and apparently more of a hassle but results are sooner.

You've gone through hell, OP. I hope you keep feeling better!!

I don't think I would have been capable of caring for myself much less a child with those symptoms. Please don't beat yourself up about your parenting. You needed to stay alive and you did. So pat yourself on the back. Thank you for posting this.

I'm glad you're on the road to recovery but BOY that sounds miserable.
