Cool. OP said "grocery store run." Guidance is to skip the grocery store runs right now. Just stay inside. This is what we've prepared for.

I thought we were supposed to get shopping down to every 2 weeks if possible. Some of us were preparing to get by 2 weeks without shopping, and are nearing the end of that and need to restock. "Make sure you go every 2 weeks AND have an additional, untouched fortnight's worth of food in case we move the goalposts one random day" is not the guidance i was preparing under. Nor do i have the space.

That said, we can stretch until Friday, but at that point we'll be out of everything my kid will eat, especially perishables. So milk, fruit, bread (I found bugs in my flour today so i won't be making my own)....

This. I stocked up the last week in February and haven't shopped since. I've done my part to socially distance. Now I need to go to the store. Cat must have food, and I've gone through the 30+ cans I bought earlier.

I'm getting constipated just reading your post.

Why am I picturing a cat lady right noe?

Dear PP, no, this would be wasteful! For one, bugs are alive, that means you have good
unbleached flour, just like a bug in an apple is a good thing!

Our grandmothers were never stopped by bugs in the flour! That is why the invention of
sifting happen for which every olden recipe is calling.. sift your flour first.

May God's hand prevents you from throwing out perfectly good flour when people are
starving!!
Go to your tool box and check if you have any of those gizmos:

If so, just sift your flour rand you are good to go. If not plan B..

go to amazon and either buy a fine strainer, sifter or buy a pro flour sifter:

https://www.amazon.com/NPYPQ-Stainless-Sifter-Baking-Powdered/dp/B07TWR7Q42/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=flour+sifting&qid=1586142767&sr=8-7

I can assure you how I sit here, your flour has been already sifted for you and all the bugs were taken out and you just got a second crop so do not kidd yourself, just because you never saw them before,
they factories do sift flour for them. They are in most flours most of the time. Do not despair,
just sift. Repeat.

Are weevils safe to eat? Since you typically bake or cook the flour before eating it, there is no danger from eating weevils in flour. However, it is easy to simply sift them out of the flour first using a mesh strainer or flour sifter, though this will likely not sift out the weevil eggs.

If you are totally spooked by them, the old chefs' trick. .just make a chocolate cake with chocolate
bits.. see if anyone will complaint

I found bugs in my 20 lb bag of King Arthur flour. Sifted them out and it’s fine.

Are we pretending “grocery order” isn’t the exact same thing as “grocery run” now? Grocery deliveries remain FINE.

Who is "we"?

Last time I checked there is no need to stockpile food. That's just dumb.

+1 I haven’t heard this guidance either. And I don’t stockpile food.

This is like a bad movie where people don't believe the tsunami is coming when the audience can all see it over the idiot's shoulder.

Stockpiling is so that if you need to stay indoors, you have the supplies you need to do so. That time has come. Stay inside.

'This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store' | White House coronavirus expert suggests DC's a potential virus hot spot
Dr. Deborah Birx is looking at D.C. as one of the U.S.'s next big hot spots for COVID-19. And limiting your trips to the grocery store and pharmacy could help.

I'm sorry, what the heck kind of mixed messaging advice is this?

The big test will come in the next couple weeks, said Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator.

"The next two weeks are extraordinarily important," Birx said. "This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe, and that means everybody doing the six-feet distancing, washing your hands."

The next two weeks are important -- WHERE? NYC or Nebraska? This is a large country.

Her advice is the whole US should not go to the grocery store or the pharmacy? And doing the "6 foot distancing and washing hands"??

If we are on national lockdown SAY THAT. But to not go to the pharmacy for necessary medication for two weeks is a HUGE BIG DEAL and should not be advised in the same sentence as "wash your hands".

You've been notified -- now look it up yourself. It was a press conference. Washington DC is a new hotspot. You're be smart to stay home now.

Post 04/05/2020 23:38     Subject: Re:What are you picking up in your next grocery store run/delivery?

I’m in CA. I think we’ve been eating pretty well while also trying to avoid the store. We go about every 10 days (less if we can help it) but have neighbors who we’re somewhat staggered with so we pick up things for them and vice versa.

Another neighbor had to close her olive oil shop so I just bought some directly that she delivered to our porch. I’m doing a lot of fruit I can freeze / put in baked goods, a lot of longer lasting counter fruits and veggies (apples, clementines, onions, garlic etc)

My husband shopped a few days ago so yesterday I roasted a chicken and we’ll make stock and yesterday he made a beef stew we ate tonight. I have a chickpea and carrot tagine recipe I love and the canned chick peas, onions, and carrots are all fairly long-lasting. My children have been enjoying popcorn movie nights so I’m glad we have a big jar of kernels.

We’ve been trying to social distance as best we can since late Feb (started working from home then) but kids were still going to school. Until this week I was still letting them bike or so sidewalk chalk at public parks and then we switched to neighborhood walks. My older daughter (7) has developed a bad cough and headache and is really congested and I’m congested with some wheezing so we’re fully isolating now. I assume given symptoms (sinus pressure, no temps) that it’s not covid, but who knows.

Wow, that is very specific and one would think that the word is not coming to an end looking
how well you dine..

Zatar, I can live without till the epidemic ends.

Amarillo paste, can do at home easily:

How to Make Aji Amarillo Paste – the Recipe Method
First, add the following ingredients to a food processor – 2 chopped aji amarillo peppers, a tablespoon chopped onion, 1 chopped garlic clove, pinch of salt and a tablespoon of olive oil.
Process the mixture until a thick paste forms.

I bet she would need to go to store to get all those fresh ingredients to make the paste, too. Duh!

By the rise of hand who like never would have a fresh garlic, and onion and the salad and he olive oil at hand. This is basics. If you know you like the paste you would also have our pepper at hand. if not this is all you really need.
