The nurses are great form things like swaddling and “is it supposed to do that?!” They’re hit or miss on lactation help — some seem to know a lot, some less so but everyone I interacted with was super nice and supportive of me both times. GW will send a lactation consultant to see you at least once but you never know when so I didn’t find it terribly helpful with my first — definitely recommend setting up a consult with the breastfeeding center a couple days after birth. They were extremely helpful and nice to my sobbing mess of postpartum emotions the first time around. 😝

Thank you for the suggestion! Oh, did you schedule your postpartum appointment (6 weeks I think?) during your hospital stay? We all know how GW scheduling has been recently so I’m wondering if I should try to guesstimate my delivery date and just go ahead and schedule one now.

I scheduled mine during my hospital stay but it was the first time I’ve successfully scheduled an appointment over the phone since October so I honestly think estimating six weeks out from your due date now wouldn’t be a terrible idea. Also you’ll already have to schedule your baby’s first ped appointment and potentially your lactation consult and fill out the social security paperwork so honestly if you can avoid one stressful administrative task while figuring out parenting I would do that.

During the heat of a wave peaking things are subject to change. The only way to be 100% sure is to call ahead the day of.

i gave birth in august during the lull so my partner was allowed to come and go. at the time i entered with everyone else entering the hospital and that seemed the riskiest part.

but all baby supplies-- blankets, diapers, formula, hats, nose bulb, washcloths, baby wash, are provided and you are expected to take things home with you. i'd plan on a large battery and long cord for you, possibly a comfortable pillow and blanket for partner, and snacks to your liking since there is no leaving. there are microwaves, a fridge, a water/ice machine and a coffee/tea machine in a room near to your room.
