Net Present value for a degree from Carnegie is significantly higher than UVA. Carnegie is ranked 18, while UVA is 1080. Not even close.

I disagree with this. CMU is in the heart of Pittsburgh. It might be too gritty for some people, but it is vibrant.
The kids from all the universities in Pittsburgh mix, as well.

many companies only recruit at CMU.
depends on the kid though. CMU is not for the super social type kids. it's best for mis-fits or kids that have their own lane.
I find this hard to believe unless you're talking about a Pittsburgh-based small business.
Really? Look at which companies have a large presence in Pittsburgh. Look at the ones that have a large presence in Charlottesville. Look at the partnerships that CMU has. Look at the ones that UVA has.

For undergraduate degree. DS hasn't made his mind about career but most likely in financial sector. Agreed with previous post, it is no brainier to pay for HYPSM but not sure about CMU. Middle class, can afford $40k difference but want to make sure it is worth it.

The finance sector does heavy recruiting there.
