I'm not interested in playing your "but you can ALSO die from THIS thing" games. I'm saying this whole attitude of "heck, let's just YOLO our way through a fcking pandemic because WOO HOO" is deeply, deeply, disturbing. Especially coming from the folks famous for being pro-life, and being All Life Matters fanatics. Who now seem to be accepting - even welcoming - preventable deaths with what seems to be a big old sht eating grin.

As someone who loves life, and loves other people having the opportunity to live, I find it fcking disturbing. Chilling, in fact. Almost like you're ready to ship old people and the injured and disabled to the crematories before they have even succumbed to your blessed disease.

That's a strawman position. I don't know anyone here who is arguing that we should not consider the risks or act in a responsible manner. We just don't think it is helpful to live on the constant edge of paranoia.

Some of us value our sanity even if you don't.

Having a pro-life position?

We all have prolife positions. But the reality is that there will be death. Do prevent your kids from driving because they might die? No. But we arm them with training and info to make sure that have a chance. Same thing here. Do we close the United States down indefinitely? No. We just arm people with info and tearing and keep on going.

Until we're at a standstill because hospitals are overwhelmed because too many people "armed with info" are ignoring the info. Are you just not paying attention?

Sadly, I have just decided to sit back and let my angry FoxNews-loving parents go out and live their lives. If they choose to reject science, medicine, and reason; it’s their choice. Perhaps this virus will leave the more caring and compassionate citizenry changing the whole dynamic of the country?

Let's say you were given the power to remove all speed limits, traffic safety laws, driver license requirements, and car safety equipment requirements. This will make people significantly more mobile and increase economic output. Would you use that power?

This whole MAGA martyr idea is nutso. Die for the Dow and Trump? We are entering Jim Jones territory.

Every good Christian knows money can’t get you into heaven.

And every person in the world knows that you go out of this world, the same way you came into it: naked, without material possession.

Their attitude toward climate change seems sort of similarly beyond nihilistic - nihilism would be like "well who cares" while they actually seem to actively pursue death.

Anyway, good times here in Trump's America!

Nah, death has been around ever since we have been put on this earth. To put it in perspective, in the U.S. there have been 50 million cases of the flu, 20 million medical visits, 700,000 hospitalizations and 50,000 deaths this season. Numbers from CDC. Just had another 100 people die from the flu yesterday and the numbers keep climbing.
Not a Democrat or republican thing. Just the reality of living on this little planet. Wonder what kind of diseases will be on Mars when we move there. Gotta think bigger than earth as life as humans on this planet is temporary.

268 people died from coronavirus today and it will likely be a higher number today.

We do a lot more than "arm people with info." There are many things you can't do because they are too dangerous to yourself or others. We have all sorts of safeguards already built in. Expensive safeguards that you don't even know are there so you can carry on blithely making a buck

That is a very sad thought, especially after seeing a recent chart describing how people die. It was posted in another thread, but I remember seeing that Suicide was a leading cause of death for certain demographics. You can distance physically without distancing socially, and there is no reason we cannot provide community resources virtually to encourage others to public mental health. Having a unified message and hope from our leaders around the world will help with that.
