Also, the Ken Burns documentary "National Parks: America's Best Idea" changed our whole lives. It will make your kids want to get out there!
Re John Adams; it is interesting but I think only for adults because it's too slow moving and dry for kids. You have to really want to learn your history to watch it. LOL Start with something exciting, OP...start with Sparticus!

thanks all for great ideas!
Anonymous wrote:Any of Ken Burns’ documentaries. I loved the Civil War and WWII when I was younger.
Most PBS Masterpiece programming will be appropriate: Victoria, Poldark, Downton Abbey, Wolf Hall, etc
The Miracle Worker (about Helen Keller)
All Quiet on the Western Front (WWI)

Also Jamestown, although I’m bummed Season 2 is pay on Prime.
I love turn, but they made a ton of stuff up.
It’s not appropriate for the younger kids.
Another fan of "Turn" here. Not appropriate for younger kids. And "Jamestown" is pure piffle and not historically accurate.
Agree with the PP list at 16:44. Great list!

We are doing the HBO mini-series John Adams for my Revolutionary War-loving kid.
Will probably also do Saving Private Ryan - we started it a few months ago but didn't finish it.
Any other suggestions or ideas?
Kids are 8, 11 and 16 by the way.
WHAT?!? For an 8 and 11 year old? Saving Private Ryan is rated R for a reason.
