Also, the Ken Burns documentary "National Parks: America's Best Idea" changed our whole lives. It will make your kids want to get out there!

Re John Adams; it is interesting but I think only for adults because it's too slow moving and dry for kids. You have to really want to learn your history to watch it. LOL Start with something exciting, OP...start with Sparticus!

Um, no:

I’m the PP who posted a few times upthread and included sparticus on my long list. I meant the 1960 Kirk Douglas film.

War and remembrance
Winds of war
North and south
Probably all on YouTube . I really liked Chiefs but that’s probably not for kids

Roman Mysteries on prime is excellent. They take fictitious man characters and put them in a storyline about Ancient Rome. Liberty kids does the same thing with the revolutionary time period but is animated and skews younger. All three kids could watch this show.

Those are awesome. Prime has manor house (British) and the Canadian produced frontier quest, quest for the sea, etc. basically taking contemporary people and putting them in the settings of a time period.

Most PBS Masterpiece programming will be appropriate: Victoria, Poldark, Downton Abbey, Wolf Hall, etc

The Miracle Worker (about Helen Keller)

All Quiet on the Western Front (WWI)

I wouldn’t bother with any of the pbs series you mentioned. I think kids would be bored silly. Wolf Hall is the only one that’s even remotely accurate (even though victoria is based on a real person as well).

Could you rent 1917 on iTunes? Its thrilling and I think boys in particular would love it - it has a bit of a video game vibe.

Also Jamestown, although I’m bummed Season 2 is pay on Prime.

I love turn, but they made a ton of stuff up.

It’s not appropriate for the younger kids.

Another fan of "Turn" here. Not appropriate for younger kids. And "Jamestown" is pure piffle and not historically accurate.

Agree with the PP list at 16:44. Great list!

Piffle—I haven’t heard that word in a long, long time.

Turn is pretty piffley too:

Also there were no damn eggs.

When the virus is at bay, take a trip out to the cryptology museum (small, free, and fun) for a brush up on actual spying techniques as well as to the navy museum to see a model of the turtle.

Not really educational as it sounds. There’s also a rape depicted, just as a heads up.

We are doing the HBO mini-series John Adams for my Revolutionary War-loving kid.

Will probably also do Saving Private Ryan - we started it a few months ago but didn't finish it.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Kids are 8, 11 and 16 by the way.

WHAT?!? For an 8 and 11 year old? Saving Private Ryan is rated R for a reason.

The 8 year old didn't see it. But the 11 year old can handle it - I think kids are different and can handle different things.
