I cant believe that it took me so long to realize I can make 2-3x as much as a writer in the corporate sector instead of as a journalist, and that my work and time can still involve meaningful societal contribution without being a journalist.
That industy’s cultish self-importance blinded me for a long time. I was dumb.

I do miss the soup in the cafeteria though

I know what you mean! I'm a single mom and I stress so much that I'm going to get fired. Same thing...I get a good job verbally, but on the "Areas of Improvement", it's that same item as the "good job".

I quit, freelanced for a couple months and recently started a new job that appears to be much saner. I think I have PTSD from the old job so it may take me a while to trust I’m in a good situation.

+1 I'm hopefully on my way out by the spring. My boss likes to make up lies, about me and about policy. HR lets her get away with twisting annual leave rules so she can punish staffers a lot of back and forth about their timesheets.

I won't miss my much lower government salary. Can't believe it took me so long to realize I could literally make twice as much protecting Facebook's servers than classified government systems.
