You'll match at Burroughs and snap up an aftercare spot, but then spend the summer wondering if you should have ranked Langdon higher. Most of your wait list numbers will look hopeless, but you'll get a surprise offer from LAMB South Dakota after school starts when other Ward 5 parents decide they can't deal with the move to Kingsbury.
Early Action folks will knock you out of the running for Burroughs in the initial lottery. You will get a seat over the summer.
Well we’d have to decline because of no aftercare at that point... so Langdon it is!
Just be aware you'd have to re-add Langdon post-lottery if this scenario comes true! I imagine as IB you can still get in though, to the traditional program.
You bring up a good point that I want to clarify- if I accept a seat at Langdon, and am offered a seat at Burroughs but decline because there is no aftercare availability, would I have to re-enroll at Langdon? I thought you can decline offers from waitlists. I wouldn’t accept a seat somewhere else unless I had an aftercare slot.
Certainly you can decline offers yes. Your post assumes that you match at Langdon though, not something above it.
PP, this isn't my list, but this advice is super confusing. What is the scenario in which this family would "have to" re-add Langdon post lottery?
If you match with a school higher than Langdon, you have to re-add and you go to the back of the waitlist in your preference category (so among in-bound families if you're in bound, siblings in bound if you also have an older kid, etc). If you match with Langdon and enroll; you are enrolled and no waitlist offers (that are not accepted) will change that.
But you don't "have to" re-add Langdon. You can just stick with the school you matched at. Presumably there's a reason they ranked it higher.
If you read the thread, they prefer Burroughs but ONLY if they can get an aftercare spot there.
