I would never let my kid go without a parent. A bunch of drunk kids running around? A recipe for disaster. I wouldn’t worry about my own kid as much as about her being hit by a drunk driver or being sexually assaulted or whatever. It’s really hard to stand up to peer pressure right out of high school. My kid was a really good kid that doesn’t drink even as an adult out of college now, but both my spouse and I are teachers and told her from the time she knew what it was that would be no beach week, but we would take a bunch of her friends if she wanted. She wasn’t interested at all, thankfully.

My cousin let her kid go and he called her to say a kid passed out and he couldn’t wake him up, and she went and picked him up and took him home that day, after the ambulance came, and her son went willingly.

I did this back in the late 80’s. Rented a condo with 4 other girls. Our parents had to sign for the rental. My friends and I were pretty tame though. We sunbathed in the beach during the day. At night we went to dinner and maybe drank a little. Knowing what i saw around me and that my kids are not me, I probably will not allow them to go.

I'm not from around here, but I'm having trouble believing this is an actual thing sanctioned by the City. I mean I see the website, but how did such a thing come about when it sounds like a completely horrible idea? And of course I'm jealous that I didn't get to do it, but thankful, too!

I studied abroad when I was 19. I was a good kid, but still did dumb things. All that said, I always remembered something my dad told me: "When in doubt, don't." Basically, remind your kid that they need to listen to their inner voice before they make a choice to do something. I still remember this advice, and I'm 40 years old now!! It was, and still is, a powerful reminder that I don't have to give in to peer pressure.

My son went in June (at 17) with a large group. They drank some Coors Lights, made sure that they had a designated driver, and had a good time. I'm a little fuzzy on the details about the lodging. He reported that only one of them got drunk enough to puke, so it sounds fairly tame. He did plenty of normal beach things, too. It wasn't round the clock partying.

Went as a 17 year old in the 90s. We were pretty chill. I remember not wanting to upset my parents after they trusted me out on my own. Hung out at the beach and went to a few parties. I’m glad I got the experience and didn’t feel the need to go crazy in college. I’ll let my kids go when they graduate.

Oh I'll come get you. But you are staying your ass in the drunk tank all night. And morning. I'll be leaving DC after rush hour so you are stuck until sometime after lunch. Shoot. I'll probably be hungry so might stop for a nice water front crab cake along the bay before I swing into City lock up. It's not Oz, they will be fine

Please please please stress the reckless/daredevil behavior. It might not make him an angel but might also be a tiny voice innhis head that tells him not to run diving into the ocean when it's a few feet from shore (know a father of 3 who is paralyzed nthis way) or jump off a balcony or into a canal or waterway from a ledge when you don't know where it leads (know a kid who died at 21 his senior week of college) this isn't Mexico, Jamaica or Hawaii there is no cliff diving in ocmd that's safe

Definitely no diving into the ocean!!!! I know someone paralyzed because of it.
