Yes the fully funded national events are equal. They are also partnering with NWSL to identify players so there is opportunities for girls. But the funding is mostly coming from MLS. For the funding to grow and ODP to become free at the regional level for boys and girls the MLS needs to benefit. That will happen if they are getting boys into their academies, through ODP, that they can eventually sell off and make money on the transfer fee.

So they use ODP to recruit to DA, which then promptly excludes them from ODP. Makes perfect sense.

All good though. If ODP can find a way to be relevant again, good for them. It used to be a good program. The coaching though has to get better. ODP used to have high quality coaches.

So ODP got more funding for the national teams and they are funding the overseas trips. It is true that everyone makes ODP tryouts. However they do not accept everyone for the state team. The regional team includes 0-2 people from a state, so it is selective. The skill at the 03.04.05 male level is decent. Maybe not the best, but it's definitely as good at one of the top teams in each league. We were at va friendlies last weekend and the play was good enough. For whatever reason, all kids do not make the Dev Academy. I think ODP is a good fill in for winter practice and gives them an opportunity with other kids.

Is the talent pool good? Did top players from top teams even attempt to sign up for ODP at your age? Im guessing your kid is 2008? we have someone on the team now who made State and the parents will not stop bragging but everyone doesnt want to tell them how terrible ODP is now.

All I can tell you is they have been making a lot of changes this year to make ODP more relevant. The national level teams, U14 and up are fully funded and they have been playing against DA teams. They won every game last month at the ntc.

By national teams, I presume you mean the ODP national camp teams. What's funny about ODP is that the ODP national camps don't even feed into the YNT's, except unless a player happens to be scouted at one of these. It's nice that they're funding this, but they would really need to fund it at the state and regional levels to start to attract back the top talent. Even then, I don't see why DA players will be attracted to it, because they already have a pathway to YNT's. ODP is like the pathway for red headed step children.

Correct, ODP u14-17. Those kids were selected out of the odp regional teams, also 2 of the boys age groups and 2 of the girls age groups are traveling overseas this spring and those trips are fully funded. You are also correct they are not pulling kids directly into the national team, but they are working closely with mls and US Soccer to get those kids pulled into MLS academies. MLS has supposedly put a lot of money and scouting resources into this pipeline of potential academy players and they are taking it seriously. The fully funded parts of the program are coming from MLS and US Soccer support, maybe that will grow in the future if it produces results. If your kid is already at an mls academy then no, this should not interest you.

They might want to re-think overseas travel this spring break (covid-19). yikes

PP is the funding just for the boys MLS side or is it for girls as well? Thank you for the helpful info.
