One multi-millionaire (maybe billionaire) I worked for takes metro everyday to his office. He wears a backpack and earbuds and looks like a college student walking down the street. You would have *no idea* he is extremely wealthy.

I’m from the PacNW. We have a Toyota and a Subaru because I think that’s normal even among rich people. While I come from a branch of an old family that squandered its share of the fortune, the rich branches also never went for luxury cars. HHI of $700k.

My husband is from NOVA and had a bachelor’s BMW when I met him. It’s now 12 years old and serves as the au pair beater car.

I’m from the Mississippi Delta. Old money - cotton and lumber. My grandparents spent money freely, but not on expensive cars. They thought it was ridiculous. My parents are the same. My mom drives some kind of Toyota. My dad drives a Ford Pick Up. They have a gorgeous home. They spend money on travel, clothes, jewelry, ....and they give a lot to charity. Vehicles aren’t important to them. I’ve noticed the same in their wealthy friends. Driving flashy cars is more of a new money thing.

How do you think those people got rich in the first place? That kind of mindset doesn't suddenly end.
