So, this was my husband's "joke" name for our girl. Meaning, he would pretend we were going to call her Esmeralda, because he knew he could get a rise out of me. For comparison's sake, his joke name for our son was Vlad.

It's awful for all the reasons previously mentioned. Too long (to say and to spell), is clunky, too old fashioned, and I'd put it in the same category as Cinnamon. Do ypu have any colleagues named Cinnamon? No. Esmeralda? No. There's a reason...

Pretty much the same as Scarlett to me. I like it. Sounds like the color green. I do think of the hunchback of notre dame

Esme makes me think of Twilight. If OP wants to avoid the connection, maybe Alda is a better choice.

I'll go against the crowd and say I vastly prefer it to Esme - and I normally don't go in for frou-frou names. But Esme sounds choppy and unfinished, like you started to say a word and stopped because there was something in your throat.

Wow people are pretty rude. It’s a lovely name with a lot of history and cute nickname like Esme.

I swear someone could post about literally any name in the world on this forum and people would have something nasty to say.

I think of a hunchback and Notre Dame. Quasimodo would be a good middle name and you could call her Esqu or just Su or Sue. Truly awful.
