I thought they had to "have access" to a well-rounded curriculum. I did not understand this to mean that children would have to drop band/language to do it. Music counts as arts, yes?

On the back of my DS's registration form it says

"MSDE well-rounded curriculum requires students complete a minimum of one marking period of fine art and computation thinking. As a result, all students must meet this requirement by the end of 8th grade year."

That tells me it's not a per school requirement (which does not make any sense anyway).

I’m wondering this also.

I’d rather my kid stick with Band/Spanish than take the tech class. Just leave the tech class for HS or as a summer class.

And I don’t want them to replace PE with a tech class.

Hoping parents can just refuse it until HS.

I'm the first quote and I did not understand that it's a school requirement and not MCPS. I did not realize that schools could implement their own standards.

Our counselor said that MCPS is pushing schools to do this. Unless he (the counselor) was lying to avoid angry parents!

Check with your MS Counselor. There is a specific list of classes that fulfill the MS tech requirement.

My 6th grader is in the arts elective rotation and had a technology class one quarter. I'm assuming that will cover the requirement, no?
