There's probably about 3-5 hours labor to do a wiring harness and ECM, so labor would be another $300-$500 over parts cost


They are also made in South Africa and the US so you are paying German prices for a non-German car.

PP here. Depending on the job it was either a Jetta or a 3 series. Both were equally unreliable.

I am from Los Angeles and a 3 series is the car everyone gets for a couple years on some crappy lease or a 12 percent APR loan when they start working and then they realize it was a terrible idea.

If you need A car anything will be fine. BMW is THE car.

I love my BMW, but it's because I'm a speed junkie. They are the least reliable cars ever. Even with a warranty, mine is a pain. My 2008 with 100K miles is worth less than a similarly used Civic. The warranty expires in July, and I'll be dumping it by then.

Cheap BMWs are literally Made in Mexico junk that falls apart after 30k miles. Only suckers buy these used. Lease only, preferably a company-funded lease.

I’m the PP who bought a used BMW. Our other car is a Toyota, I drive it. It’s been great. But obviously they’re different cars and a bmw is more fun to drive. The warranty covers up to 100k miles.

BMW is and always will be a 50K mile care. I've owned a few and get rid of them after the initial factory warranty ends.

BMWs are only THE car to people looking for a status symbol and license to drive aggressively and not use turn signals, particularly low-end 3 series owners. They are A car and A GOOD OPTION for people who can afford a nicer model and like the specific way they drive. It is not for everyone but perfect for some.
