Yes, that’s the cousin who died from cancer and refused to testify against him. His mother had an affair with the cousin’s husband (or boyfriend if they weren’t married). Tanya. And so then AH moved in with Tanya and that’s when he really started going downhill.

So many factors.

AH wanted so bad to be a gang banger - he hung out with his cousin bc she had thug friends, and he learned to talk the talk. Joke was, he grew up in a privileged suburb of Connecticut. My only thought is that he wanted to become a "tough guy" for all the abuse his dad had doled out to him (and his brother and mother).

Why he couldn't see all he had is the big question. Did he somehow feel tethered to this awful family? Did he feel like he owed them something? His college was by full scholarship - which led to him to believe he was above the law - he got away with whatever he wanted. Not saying that makes someone that way, but it is not as if he owes his family for college tuition, even.

The AH story gave me the same feeling that the OJ story gave me - AH thought he could get away with murder, and he almost did. I am sure the OJ outcome did AH no favors.

I am actually considering reading DJ's (the brother's) book now.

Watched it. Sad. I think it underscores that often it’s a combination of factors that makes a criminal.

The CTE is terribly alarming and sad.

I too was frustrated by all the talk of his sexuality. First of all it seems he was bisexual, not gay, but they kept referring to his fiancée as a beard. Second of all in the list of issues that turned him into a murderous douche that should rank at the absolute bottom.

It appears that the revelation and exposure of his private life along with the severe CTE brain damage, might have contributed to Hernandez taking his life.

He was found guilty by a jury for a heinous murder.

I totally ignore sports and didn't really know anything about this story. The doc was fascinating and now I'm going to look for the podcast a PP noted.

They interviewed his wife, brother, childhood friends, pro athletes wouldn’t comment, his cousin wouldn’t talk and later died and his garbage mother I wouldn’t want to hear from. Unfortunately, he associated with criminals and drug dealers

I thought it was garbage. Too much focus and speculation on a dead guys sexual preference. Not enough focus on more important aspects of his life. They couldn't get better people to interview from his life?
