Yep I think a lot of the local teams did not make it. Looking at the rankings as a guide, JC can take better teams from outside our area. Also those team will use the hotel booking racket for all the days.

Jeff Cup never says no, not to those type teams at any rate. No one got refused. But if they did fear low bracket placement, that could make sense. However, if they did well at CASL, then they shouldn't fear low bracket placement.

I do not know. I think clubs get rejected. Look at all the 2nd and 3rd teams in this tournament from outside the DMV. It’s a close(easy drive for 3 games)tournament with good competition for the local clubs. I have seen Loudoun and Arlington’s 2nd team in before. I can not image they did not apply for those teams. Did they get rejected or not apply?

I really have a hard time believing all the other DMV Club’s first teams did not apply to the Jeff Cup. A quick look at the other age groups show very few local clubs. I wonder why that is?

It isn't that the tournaments are worthless but what is worthless is reading to much into failure or success at them. If your kid is 10-12 the "team" success is not important in terms of development of the individual player. Also, success in these tournaments are not predictive of individual potential either.

There are lots of shortcut ways to win these types of tournaments with the right player selection.

After U12 the best players tend to migrate to the best platforms and then form the best teams. This often means leaving their former U11 Jeff Cup Champion team behind. There is a lot of reshuffling of the deck from U13-U15 and that Jeff Cup win at U12 will seem like a century away when you start to think about playing in college or not.

So, as said before in the "State Cup" thread. Enjoy it for what it is but do not read to much into any particular outcome. It is all fun, it is all exciting it also doesn't really mean that much either beyond the experience.

It's a pricey tournament. Maybe some of the clubs decided it wasn't worth it, at least at the younger ages.

I don’t think that’s the reason. They went to CASL in Raleigh! I think BRYC and FCV knew they would either have a low placement (like McLean) or lose all their games and look bad right before it’s time to recruit new players.

I don't really think all of that, but there are too many leagues and too many hands in the pot. The Jeff Cup should open up a DA bracket if it wants to remain viable for top teams. Not having it also hurts competition levels of ECNL teams, and so Jeff cup is losing from multiple fronts.

Besides, having such a bracket is player friendly.

I was thinking that but didn't want to say it. And since that hits both the girls and boys, it hits the tournament as a whole.

FCV 2010s/U10s didn't apply. Can't speak for other age years
