“You’re here”:
Look at your hands
they’re still so small
someday you’re going to stretch them out
and save us all

When the song appeared in the movie “Meet Me in St. Louis” Garland refused to sing it at first fearing the 6 yr old co-star would cry and think her a monster. The lyrics had several revisions after that and once again on Sinatra’s album “Jolly Christmas.”

Original lyric from movie:

“Faithful friends who were dear to us, will be near to us no more.”

Wow, I did not know that.

"Joy" by Tracey Thorne (from Everything but the Girl)

"Christmas in the Room" by Sufjan Stevens (reminds me of the first Christmas when it was just my DH and me, after my mom died and my dad remarried and my family of origin blew up)

Patton Oswalt’s epic takedown of that song might help you get over that:

I have always f****** hated that song, even more so now than before, because my mom was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. I curse out loud and change the station every time it comes on.

Reminded of this one yesterday - I Believe in Father Christmas. More haunting than sad.

And then Do They Know it's Christmas. I've literally cried hearing that song.

Unless the one performed by Justin Bieber...

Ew. Thankfully never heard that version. Thanks for the warning.
