American Girl Dolls - DD desperately wanted, but has never played with dolls or accessories. She loves the AG books.

Lego advent calendar. For some reason did this 3 years in a row, forgetting that by week 2 it was boring and went unopened for days at a time.

BB8 robot thing that is controlled by the iPad. (A gift from an aunt; not me.) Used maybe 3 times.

Expensive lego sets. My kids just like mixed legos to build whatever. I wasted money on a batman set once.

Lego themed sets - Ds at 10 plays a lot with Lego but rarely plays with themed sets after they are built. Only plays with their minifigs. Does not allow the sets to be broken up also to use the pieces. Does a lot of free play with other bricks.

My boys loved to build forts, so I thought they would love the indoor tent I bought them. Nope. I guess it's the building that is the more important aspect of forts, not just having a place to hide away.


An American girl doll knockoff brand accessory. It was still very expensive. She didn’t even realize immediately it wasn’t AG. She just disliked it.

Our play kitchen has been one of the most used toys in our house for the past 4 years. DS (6 yo) has always been a big fan and DD (2yo) is starting to get into it now.


Same here our play kitchen was consistently used for over 6 years between our 2 kids. (generic brand) magnatiles are in consistent play rotation too.

Our play kitchen has been one of the most used toys in our house for the past 4 years. DS (6 yo) has always been a big fan and DD (2yo) is starting to get into it now.

I was one of the families with kids who weren’t so into magnatiles or the dollhouse, but they loved the toy kitchen and play food or for many years.

My 10 year old has been using his weekly at least since he was 3. We have so many sets he is able to make cat habitats out of them, and the cats love it too!

We got one of those expensive make-your-own robot kits a couple of years ago. It had approximately 1000 parts. We worked on it for a few hours and both admitted defeat.
